Producer

Bodegas Casal de Arman belongs to the fourth generation González-Vázquez family who have been making Ribeiro wines since the 19th century. The estate produces wines of execptional quality from unusual grape varieties such as Treixadura, Godella and Albarino and their deep respect for the preservation of the land remains integral to their farming philosophy.

Region

Ribero del Duero is a Spanish DO located in the country’s northern plateau and is currently producing some of Spain’s most admired red wines. Grape-growing in this area is largely run by peasant farmers who have always made some wine for their own consumption and it is the altitude which means that grapes here are harvested with extremely high levels of both colour and flavour. Most of the vines grown here are Tinto Fino (the locally adapted version of Tempranillo) however Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha, Merlot and Malbec are also permitted. There are many similarities between Ribero del Duero and Rioja – both regions produce intense, extremely long-lived wines emanating from largely limestone soils. The ageing requirements for Ribero del Duero are the same used in Rioja with wines labelled ‘Crianza’ being aged for a minimum of 2 years with 12 months in oak, wines labelled ‘Reserva’ being aged for at least three years with a minimum of 12 months in oak and finally, wines labelled ‘Gran Reserva’ being aged for at least 5 years with a minimum of 2 years in oak before release.
