Château Sociando Mallet - Château de Beaucastel

Château Sociando Mallet is located in the commune of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne north of Saint-Estèphe appellation. The estate was bought in 1969 by a négociant from Lesparre named Jean Gautreau, when it was in a derelict state.   Since then, the estate has been modernised and the number of vineyards has increased from just 7 hectares to 57 hectares today. The grapes are hand-picked before fermenting in a mix of stainless steel and concrete vats. Jean Gautreau says ‘I have a superb terroir which I want to express in the wine. I try to make a classic Médoc for long keeping.’ The Château produces an average of 20,000 cases of the Grand Vin per year, and the winery also produces a second wine named La Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet.
