Château Lynch Bages

Set in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux sits Château Lynch-Bages. Jean-Charles Cazes, (a baker-turned-bank-clerk from Bordeaux) took lease on a vineyard from the owner of Lynch-Bages in 1933. In 1939 he bought the château and the rest is history - it has been in the Cazes family ever since. Jean-Charles Cazes’ great-grandson, (also Jean-Charles) now heads up the estate. Although Lynch Bages is known predominately for its red wines, since 1990 the château has also produced a white wine, Blanc de Lynch Bages which is a blend of sauvignon blanc, semillon and muscadelle. The second label of Lynch-Bages is now called Echo de Lynch-Bages, however it was formerly known as Haut Bages Averous. A third wine has now been added, called "Pauillac de Lynch-Bages". Talking of Château Lynch Bages, Oz Clarke says "Lynch Bages is impressive at five years, beautiful at ten years and irresistible at twenty."
