Château Montlabert 2010

£18.75 per bottle

Extraordinary value given Montlabert’s pedigree. 2010 is one of Bordeaux’s greatest vintages this century. Owned by the famous Saint-Julien property, Château Beychevelle, and the incredibly talented Hubert de Bouard of Château Angelus who oversees each vintage. Finely tuned and pretty aromatics, the palate is one of the best you will find at this price point.

92 Points - James Suckling

"A wine with lovely juicy fruit from sliced plums to lemons. Full body, with fine tannins and a clean finish. Fine and polished. The finish is very attractive. Try after 2016."

Taste & Aroma

Medium bodied St. Emilion with fresh cherries and chocolate. It is under the same ownership as Château Beychevelle and the consultant, Hubert de Bouard. Excellent buy considering the vintage and the pedigree names attached to this wine.

Château Montlabert is situated in the St. Emilion appellation of Bordeaux. This beautiful château was a hunting lodge in the 1700’s and the name originates from the founder of the estate, Michel Descazes Montlabert. Today the property is owned by the Castel Group, who also own Château Beychevelle in Saint-Julien.

The group hired the well-known Hubert de Bouard (manager of Château Angelus) as their consultant and his first vintage was the 2010. The vineyards are planted with around 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.  Château Montlabert produces around 3,100 cases per annum.

Château Montlabert

Bordeaux is not only the most famous wine producing region in France but in the world, with the most prestigious châteaux and wines in the industry. Its history dates back to the Roman times and today is the largest producing region of fine wines. Vineyards in Bordeaux are known by châteaux and therefore the name of each individual château is an important brand.

Many top wines are sold ‘En Primeur’ meaning that they are sold in the barrel prior to bottling. Almost 90% of the wine produced in Bordeaux is red (called ‘Claret’ in the UK) from over 8,500 producers. The main reason for the success of the wine production in Bordeaux is the perfect combination of climate, with long hours of sunshine ideal for ripening the grapes and well-draining gravel soil. Appellations are an important part of the Bordeaux culture and the region has 54 appellations recognized by the AOC, the Appellation d’Origine Controlle.
