Situated in Margaux is Château Palmer, whose name comes from a British officer, General Charles Palmer who lived in Bordeaux in 1814. After Château Margaux, Château Palmer is the most famous property in Margaux and is also very well known for producing a fantastic second label, Alter Ego de Palmer, with around 40% of the château’s wine being sold under this label. Today the Château is owned by two Bordeaux families the Sichel and the Mähler-Besse families who have had ownership since 1938. Château Palmer has been managed since 2004 by Thomas Duroux, formerly a winemaker of Tenuta Dell'Ornellaia. The vineyards are planted with equal quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with a small amount of Petit Verdot to complete the blend.
