96++ Points - Stuart McCloskey “Old vine Viognier (planted circa 1960), lovingly tended by hand… Greg and Allison deliver hallmark aromas of white flowers, honeysuckle, sun drenched apricots and a whispering of orangey spice. The palate is surprisingly elegant, beautifully balanced and a textural delight – silky smooth to be more exact. The flavour profile is expansive, but this wine will offer everything with a little more bottle age. I enjoy the focus, the minerality, the freshness and the citrus oil which coats every facet. In fact, there isn’t anything I do not enjoy. The finish is incredible – bittersweet orange marmalade after a minute or so which is a fabulous way to part. Great now and will continue to improve for at least five years. Served (not too chilled) and using Zalto Bordeaux glassware. Decant for 20-30 minutes for the best result.”
92 Points - Antonio Galloni "The 2016 Petit-Figeac is a gorgeous, silky second wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Sweet floral notes add freshness and lift to this expressive Saint-Émilion. In 2016, Petit-Figeac has a bit more Franc than usual which also contributes to the wine's perfumed personality. This is impeccably done."
95 Points - Antonio Galloni "A wine of total allure, the 2015 Home Field (Fort Ross Seaview) is also the brightest of the three Pinots in the range. Sweet red cherry, raspberry, pomegranate, blood orange and chalk are some of the many notes that run through the 2015. Bright, tense and salivating, the 2015 possesses terrific energy, with beams of underpinning salinity that drive the wine forward. This is another captivating wine from Raen."
95 Points - Antonio Galloni "The 2015 Bodega (Freestone Occidental) is the deepest and richest of these wines but it has somehow achieved all of that intensity while retaining its translucent personality and feel. Lavender, violet, plum and an array of blue stone fruit flavors give the Bodega its distinctly dark profile. At the same time, the 2015 is endowed with remarkable aromatic freshness and nuance. The whole clusters are evident, but also beautifully woven into the wine's fabric."
The Royal St. Robert cuvee is dedicated to our grandfather Robert Mondavi, who taught us to be committed to excellence. Our 2016 RSR cuvee comes from the true Sonoma Coast behind Bodega Bay and is a marriage of special lots that we feel are the best in our cellar. This wine opens with wild strawberries, crushed bing cherries, and rose petals that fill the bowl with sweet resin, white tea, thyme, forest floor and wet rock. The texture is rich, complex and leads to a long sumptuous finish.
