93 Points - The Wine Front

Almost a violet perfume, liquorice, dark mint chocolate, black fruit. Full bodied, smooth and cool, mint and dark chocolate, smooth tannin, graceful style, quite atypical I’d say. Red fruits and nuts on the finish. Kind of playing with rich and under at once. Good though. Drinking window: 2025. Date tasted: April 2017

90 Points - Robert Parker

The 2002 Shiraz Lloyd Reserve possesses sweet blackberry fruit infused with white flower and licorice notes. This elegantly styled, medium to full-bodied effort possesses sweet tannin, subtle wood, and a layered, velvety-textured finish.

Producer

Led by Senior winemaker Alex Sherrah and Manager Mark Lloyd Coriole vineyards stick to traditional processes when making their wines, either using stainless steel or old concrete tanks lined with wax. The vineyard soils are mainly rosa soils which contribute to over 80%, this helps produce their wonderfully bold and age-worthy Shiraz.

Coriole Vineyards, McLaren Vale, Australia

Region

McLaren Vale is situated south of The Barossa Valley in South Eastern Australia. The local climates vary enormously according to altitude and exposure to the cooling sea breezes. Red grapes flourish here due to the warm climate and varied soil type and the region is best known for soft and juicy Shiraz, old-vine Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The climate is similar to that of the Mediterranean climate with four clear seasons. We can highly recommend the producers Kay Brothers, Clarendon Hills and Shirvington Estate from whom we have some fantastic wines.
