"One of the wine world's flagship estates for Chenin Blanc" according to James Molesworth of the Wine Spectator. Domaine des Baumard is situated right in the heart of the Anjou and is regarded as one of the greatest producers in the Loire Valley and one of the greatest producers of white wine in the world. The property has been in the Baumard family since 1634 but is wasn't until the mid-1950's that Jean Baumard started making noticeable improvements. In 1992 Jean's son Florent took over the reins and has since run the estate with meticulous care and attention. Organic principles are applied to the wine-making process and Florent believes in using as little intervention as possible in both the vineyard and the cellar - the grapes are always hand-harvested and direct pressed as quickly as possible to preserve freshness and aroma. Baumard produces several cuvées of Savennières including a single vineyard wine (Clos du Papillon) and their extraordinary select-harvested cuvée, Trie Spéciale which is only produced in great vintages.
