The Mugnier family acquired the Château de Chambolle-Musigny back in 1899 after a successful family run at liquor trading. From the 1950's the estate's vineyards were leased out to Domaine Faiveley and Bruno Clair and it wasn't until 1985 when Frédéric Mugnier (the 5th generation of the Mugnier family) took over, that the Château began to produce its own wines. In 2004 he took back his Clos de la Marechale vineyard in Nuits Saint Georges from Faiverly, and has put his distinct stamp on the exciting vineyard. The vines are run almost organically and Frédéric tries not to adopt the overworked winemaking style that is evident in some Burgundy wines today. His wines have a powerful elegance about them; in their youth they are bursting with red fruit and with age they evolve into delicate, structured beauties.
