Taste & Aroma

A wine that makes you feel summer is on its way even when the weather suggests otherwise. Very pale (even paler than previous vintages?) with soft red fruit and peach flavours, a hint of liquorice and crisp, refreshing acidity. At this time of year when they've just been released this, the cheapest of Sainte Lucie's three rosés, is often the most enjoyable because the other two need a little more time to come together. on Apr 1st, 2016

Created by Michael Fabre in 1979, the estate of Domaine Sainte Lucie lies at the foot of the Mont Saint Victoire mountain on the dry, stony lower slopes near Aix-en-Provence. The estate’s soils are comprised of limestone, marl and clay (known as graves) and they are only suitable for the cultivation of vines, producing low yields and fine wines. The young Fabre generation have recently become involved in the business and bring with them a modern knowledge of wine-making and marketing which have given the brand the recent boost in both quality of production as well as the original packaging. They have invested heavily in cellar technology and vineyard machinery and have succeeded in implementing a modern, technology-focused and unique approach to winemaking while preserving the authenticity of this family-run estate.

Domaine sainte lucie

The historic region of Provence sits along the Mediterranean coast of France and is blessed with the perfect climate for growing grapes. It is best known for the quality and quantity of rosé wines which account for over 80% of the regions wine production. Wine has been made in this region for over 2600 years and throughout the regions history wine-making and viticulture have been influenced by the cultures that have passed through – ancient Greeks, Romans and Gauls to name a few – and these cultures are responsible for introducing a large variety of grapes to the area. Provence has 8 major wine regions with AOC designations - the Côtes de Provence and the Coteaux d’Aix en Provence being the two main regions but other well-known regions are Cassis, Bandol, Bellet and Palette. The main grape varieties used in the region are Rolle, Ugni Blanc, Bourboulenc and Rhône varietals such as Clairette, Marsanne, Rousssanne and Grenache Blanc for white wines and Grenache Noir, Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan and Cinsault for red and rosé wine production.
