Production: 690 cases
The 2014 Chardonnay Clare has a white peach, preserved lemons and yuzu-scented nose with underlying touches of cedar, buttered toast and shaved almonds. The palate is bold and intensely fruited with a pleasant oiliness, yet it is medium-bodied, finishing long with lovely purity.
Zalto Denk-Art Universal Glass
The Zalto Universal glass is recommended for richer, oaked Sauvignon Blancs such as Hughes & Hughes Barrel & Skins, white Graves or Semillon/Sauvignon blends as well as young and non-vintage Champagne. The Zalto Universal is a very good 'all-rounder', designed for all types of wine but in our opinion may not maximize the potential of certain wines quite as much as the Bordeaux or Burgundy glass.
• For more than 10 years, DuMOL wines have regularly been served at various events in The White House – they have been poured for the Queen Mother and the highest representatives of many nations, including President Bush and President Obama.
• The story began in 1996 with their first release of a miniscule 300 cases; equal numbers of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Even today, the production levels remain low (only 445 cases of the 2012 Aidan Pinot Noir).
• Today, DuMOL owns three distinct vineyards for its estate production, but also sources externally from many long established premier growers like Dutton Ranch, Larry Hyde & Sons Vineyard, and Charles Heintz Vineyard.
Robert Parker“I would have to rank DuMol as one of my favorite half dozen producers of California Chardonnay as well as one of the top twenty in terms of Pinot Noir. Moreover, their Syrah program is also impressive”
• Andy Smith is a talented winemaker and viticulturist at the helm since 2000. Before his tenure at DuMOL, Smith studied under Neil McCallum (Dry River in Martinborough), Ted Lemon (Littorai) and Paul Hobbs, all distinguished winemakers of great repute.
"California is the largest and most important wine region in the US – in fact, if California were a separate country it would be the world’s fourth largest wine producer!"
California is the largest and most important wine region in the US – in fact, if California were a separate country it would be the world’s fourth largest wine producer! California stretches along the west coast of the USA meaning that soils and climates vary enormously depending on the area’s altitude, latitude and proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Generally the cooler regions closer to the coast are most suited to the growing of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, whilst further inland (where the climate is much hotter) some of California’s most famous Cabernet Sauvignon wines are grown. The famous Ridge Estate is located here and produces some of the best and most sought after wines in California. If you enjoy Chardonnay, we highly recommend you take a look at Liquid Farm Winery, whose Chardonnay’s (we believe!) rival those of Burgundy. Within California you find some world famous regions including Napa Valley, Sonoma Coast and Santa Barbara and within these can be found small sub-regions, known as AVA’s with unique micro-climates creating characterful, terroir driven wines. Our selection includes some exclusives to the Vinorium such as Anthill Farms Campbell Ranch Pinot Noir 2014, Talbott’s Sleepy Hollow Chardonnay 2016 from their legendary Grand Cru rated vineyard and Chanin’s Sandford & Benedict Chardonnay 2014. Other highlights of our California collection include the cult wines from Orin Swift, the incredible wines of DuMol, a favourite of James Suckling, the 100 point scoring Continuum and many other icon of US wines like Varner, Ramey, Paul Lato and Stolpman.
