The Vauthier family and winemaker Phillipe Baillarguest are putting as much effort into producing the best Château Moulin Saint-Georges as they are with Château Ausone itself. Moulin Saint-Georges is produced in the same way; super-strict fruit selection and the wine is matured in 100% new French barriques from anywhere between 18 to 20 months. This is a truly fabulous property and their wine is world-class in my opinion...
Jane Anson - "This is utterly gorgeous as ever, and it must be one of the most consistent deliveries out of the big names on the right bank, showing lively, fresh and juicy black fruits. Maybe a little soft on the finish, but hard not to love this. 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc in the blend, with a yield of 30hl/ha, naturally low due to mildew. Drinking Window 2025-2045."
A deep and pretty wine with lovely texture and fruit. Medium body, fine tannins and a savory finish. Delicate.

The 2016 Moulin St Georges is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc picked from 11-15 October and matured in 85% new oak. This has a slightly lighter and airy bouquet than the Haut Simard, perhaps a touch of more austere compared to the 2015 last year. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, juicy tannin that belie the structure underneath. There is just a touch of tightness here, expected at this nascent juncture, quite linear towards the finish, yet there is good persistence here. On par with the 2015 for sure, although we have to wait and see whether it will be better.
