90 Points - James Halliday

Medium to full red-purple; solid, dark fruits and touches of dark chocolate and vanilla oak on the bouquet lead into a well-balanced, medium-bodied palate with sweet, chocolatey fruit and ripe tannins. Trophy and gold medal winner at the McLaren Vale Wine Show.

Robert Parker

The deep ruby/purple-colored 2001 JSM (70% Shiraz, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon) offers a dense, peppery, black cherry and currant-scented bouquet, medium to full body, and a chunky, monolithic but attractive personality.

Region

McLaren Vale is situated south of The Barossa Valley in South Eastern Australia. The local climates vary enormously according to altitude and exposure to the cooling sea breezes. Red grapes flourish here due to the warm climate and varied soil type and the region is best known for soft and juicy Shiraz, old-vine Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The climate is similar to that of the Mediterranean climate with four clear seasons. We can highly recommend the producers Kay Brothers, Clarendon Hills and Shirvington Estate from whom we have some fantastic wines.
