France by Producer
Without a doubt, France is one of the most important countries when talking about wine and is certainly the most famous; with the French Wine Laws controlling the production and quality. Wine production dates back to the 6th Century BC and today wine still plays a huge part in French culture and society. The diversity of French wine is due to the varied climate and soil meaning that numerous grape varieties can be grown all over France and across the regions.
Many regions are known for specific grape varieties, for example Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec in Bordeaux, Riesling and Gewürztraminer in Alsace, Syrah in The Rhône and Sauvignon Blanc in The Loire Valley.
