£26.25 per bottle

The vibrant and hugely structured Von Blauem Riesling comes from some of the steepest sites in the Mosel. If any bottle should convince a doubter, this is it! It is just so concentrated, mineral-laden, exiting and dry.

Weingut Heymann- Löwenstein is a producer of mostly dry Reisling located in Winningen in the Mosel Valley. The winery has been run by Reinhard Löwenstein and his wife Cornelia since 1980, where they spent their early years identifying top sites in the area before settling on 5 hectares of prime land on the slate slopes of Winnengen. Reinhard is one of Germany’s top winemakers and is often described as ‘a rebel from the Mosel’ due to his many years of dedication to an extreme and uncompromising quality philosophy. He is a true believer in the notion of terroir and his passion lies in expressing the personality of each of his many slate soils. The wines produced at Heymann- Löwenstein are generally drier than most in the Mosel while still retaining the richness and purity that makes the region famous.

One of the most important of the 13 wine regions and the third biggest wine region in terms of area, the Mosel region is so-called because of the Mosel River that runs through it. The vines are planted along the steep river banks making the vines some of the most labour-intensive in the industry! Mosel is dominated with white grape varieties with Riesling taking centre stage and giving the region its reputation. Unlike other Rieslings, they give off floral aromas, rather than fruity notes and are crisp, dry and high in acidity. Why not try Von Blauem Schiefer Riesling 2010 a notable example of a Riesling from this region.
