Nashwauk Shiraz 2006 (Case 6x75cl)

Score:91

The 2006 Shiraz spent 18 months in used French oak. A glass-coating purple color, it has a brooding nose of blueberry and blackberry. Full-bodied, the wine is solid but essentially one-dimensional and uninspiring. It has a big core of fruit but only moderate length.

Nashwauk is a project of Reid Bosward and Kaesler. The Nashwauk vineyard is located in the McLaren Vale sub-region of Seaview Hills overlooking the Fleurieu Peninsula and the town of McLaren Vale. The 50 acres of vineyard are steep, rugged, and terraced with naturally low yields. These are the first releases.

Region

McLaren Vale is situated south of The Barossa Valley in South Eastern Australia. The local climates vary enormously according to altitude and exposure to the cooling sea breezes. Red grapes flourish here due to the warm climate and varied soil type and the region is best known for soft and juicy Shiraz, old-vine Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The climate is similar to that of the Mediterranean climate with four clear seasons. We can highly recommend the producers Kay Brothers, Clarendon Hills and Shirvington Estate from whom we have some fantastic wines.
