In 2014, Montrose is a wine of exceptional finesse and polish. The late-ripening vintage allowed for perfect maturation of the tannins and resulted in a silky wine that exudes class and pedigree. The 2014 is not an obvious or bombastic Montrose, but rather a wine of sublime enchantment. Don't miss it!"
96 Points - Neal Martin "The 2014 Montrose has a bouquet that exudes class and sophistication: pure and mineral-driven black fruit, cedar and pencil lead, hints of blueberry developing with aeration although it never impedes upon the sense of terroir. The palate is medium-bodied with graphite-tinged black fruit, filigree tannin, a sweet core of blackberry and boysenberry fruit with a satin-like texture towards the finish. There is obviously some high quality oak used here, but it is simpatico with the fruit. For Montrose, you might argue that this is more modern in style and yet it is undeniably crafted with real panache to create a modern classic. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting."
Zalto Denk-Art Universal Glass
The Zalto Universal glass is recommended for richer, oaked Sauvignon Blancs such as Hughes & Hughes Barrel & Skins, white Graves or Semillon/Sauvignon blends as well as young and non-vintage Champagne. The Zalto Universal is a very good 'all-rounder', designed for all types of wine but in our opinion may not maximize the potential of certain wines quite as much as the Bordeaux or Burgundy glass.
Château Montrose is one of the leading estates in St.Estéphe and was founded in 1778. The vineyards are perfectly located on a deep gravel bank only 800 metres from the Gironde Estuary creating the perfect microclimate and helping to protect the vines against frost. Between 1962 and 2006 the Château was owned by Jean-Louis Charmolue until it was sold to its current owners, Martin and Olivier Bouygues (Owners of the well-known French construction firm Bouygues). The wines are typically a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc and are matured in oak barrels for 18 months. They tend to be high in tannins and therefore possess excellent ageing potential.

Almost 90% of the wine produced in Bordeaux is red (called ‘Claret’ in the UK) from over 8,500 producers. The main reason for the success of the wine production in Bordeaux is the perfect combination of climate, with long hours of sunshine ideal for ripening the grapes and well-draining gravel soil. Appellations are an important part of the Bordeaux culture and the region has 54 appellations recognized by the AOC, the Appellation d’Origine Controlle.
