The 22nd release of Meshach celebrates the great '12 Barossa Valley vintage. The colour is still deep crimson-purple, setting the pattern for the bouquet and palate to follow. A wine of the highest quality in the Olympian class of Barossa Valley shiraz, seamless, calmly powerful and perfectly balanced. Black fruits dominate, but this is no one-dimensional power play, with hints of licorice, bitter chocolate and graphite. The tannins and oak contributions are perfectly placed and paced.
Grant Burge comes from a long line of winemakers in Barossa that date back to the mid 1800’s. Grant is the fifth generation of this winemaking dynasty and formed Grant Burge Wines in 1988 with his wife Helen and in 2015, the company came under the ownership of Accolade. Grant Burge Wines continues under the leadership of chief wine maker Craig Stansborough, who has been producing wine at Grant Burge for more than 20 years and was named winemaker of the year by the Barons of Barossa in 2014. With many iconic wines in the range including the 98 point scoring Meshach Shiraz or The Holy Trinity GSM, Grant Burge wines have continued to gather much deserved acclaim.
Situated in South Australia, 60 kilometres northwest of Adelaide, lies the Barossa Valley which has been producing wine since 1842 and these days is recognised as Australia’s quintessential wine region. The hot climate mixed with the ironstone and sandstone soil in the valley, makes excellent growing conditions for grapes and in particular, Shiraz (or Syrah) which classically is full bodied with earthy and spicy notes. Over the last 15 years there has also been an increased interest in the other red Rhone varietals Grenache and Mourvedre. The non-irrigated old vineyards on the cooler west side of the valley are the most treasured and provide fruit for Australia’s most famous wine, Penfolds Grange among many other top-quality bottlings.
