97 Points - Stuart McCloskey

“Unlike many Roussanne’s - The palate has a sense of natural balance and everything is played down, not a hair out of place. The palate is captivating with breathtaking purity and clarity. Structurally, think very expensive Burgundy. Buttered toast and lemon curd which I, quite frankly, find irresistible. The weight and quality of the fruit glides across the palate with much flair. The flavour profiles fan out gloriously towards a mineral-rich finish juxtaposed with candied lemon peel. Total inviting now but will undoubtedly be at its pinnacle in 3-5 years. Thrilling, individual and certainly one of my favourite Roussanne’s”.

Taste & Aroma

A super complex and balanced wine – ripe and fleshy, yet with a crunchy freshness and a smoky minerality that keeps the finish mouth-watering. Beeswax and subtle lanolin notes as well as some gentle, phenolic grip – this delivers a whole lot of wine in the glass.

Region

Located just east of Melbourne in Victoria and surrounding the Yarra River, Yarra Valley enjoys a mix of influences both mediterranean and continental with two main soil types including the bright red, fertile, volcanic soil found mainly around Seville. Yarra Valley has a climate slightly cooler than Bordeaux enabling a range of grapes from Bordeaux varieties such as Cabernet, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon and Semillon to Rhone varieties such as Shiraz, Mourvedre, Viognier and Roussanne, as well as many others. This enables a range of wine styles to be produced here evident with producers such as Yarra Yerring who create several outstanding Bordeaux and Rhone style blends. For their Eileen Hardy Pinot Noir, Hardys source fruit from both Tasmania and Yarra Valley, whilst Jamsheed focus on high quality Rhone varieties and Mayer produces highly complex Pinot Noir from whole bunch pressing.
