John's Blend

John's Blend Wines

"It was his time spent at Wolf Blass that had already earned him the reputation as one of Australia’s greatest winemakers, winning the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy no less than four times plus 11 Montgomery trophies for the Best Red Wine at the Adelaide Wine Show."

The Glaetzer name is almost woven into the very fabric of the Barossa region and Australian wine itself. John is the uncle of Ben Glaetzer of Glaetzer Wines in Barossa and Nick Glaetzer of Glaetzer-Dixon in Tasmania, John and Margarete produced their first vintage of John’s Blend in 1974.

John was still working at the time a senior winemaker at Wolf Blass when they started the John’s Blend label, and it was his time spent at Wold Blass that had already earned him the reputation as one of Australia’s greatest winemakers, winning the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy no less than four times plus 11 Montgomery trophies for the Best Red Wine at the Adelaide Wine Show.

Based in one of Australia’s oldest wine regions, Langhorne Creek in South Australia, a region famed for its Cabernet Sauvignon, a variety that John and Margarete specialize in with small batch productions of super premium grapes. In 1995 they made an addition with Margarete’s Shiraz, a wine that since its release has gained equal notoriety.

John’s work with Wolf Blass has had an undeniable influence on and helped to shape Australian winemaking and he has been making his own John’s Blend for almost as long as he has for Wolf Blass. Notoriously, John is a man of few words and does very few interviews but is recognised as being one of Australia’s most decorated winemakers. He retired in 2004 after a career that spanned three decades at Wolf Blass and has put all is efforts, combining his 30 years of experience into continuing the success of John’s Blend wines.
