Lisa Perrotti-Brown "Composed of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Shiraz, the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon was 100% barrel fermented and aged for 12 months in 60% new oak and 40% one-year-old oak, with 55% American and 45% French barrels. It presents a deep garnet color and aromas of black currant cordial, black cherry preserves and dried plums over spice box, cloves, pencil lead, toast plus a whiff of lavender. Very full bodied and richly fruited in the mouth, the generosity of spicy berry flavors is well supported by a medium to firm level of very finely grained tannins and very crisp acid, finishing long and layered. Drinking nicely now."

Light yellow colour with pale green tints. Intense and complex nose of exotic white fruits and citrus fruit mixed with floral notes of linden and acacia. The palate is rich, generous, ample and intensely fruity, with very good tension. The Sauvignon Blanc lemon juice delicately coats the exotic sweetness (lychee, mango) of the well-ripe Semillon. Mineral notes bringing good salinity added to this cocktail, to serve a beautiful finish. Concentration of white fruits, mineral freshness and righteousness.

Yields were a minuscule 14 hl/ha (about 1 ton per acre). Saturated opaque purple/black, it has a remarkably kinky, exotic perfume of fresh asphalt, pencil lead, smoke, pepper, game, blueberry and black raspberry. Full-bodied and voluptuous in the mouth, the wine is dense and packed, with amazing purity, sweet tannins, and a complex collection of sensory stimuli. The wine demands 10 years of cellaring and will provide hedonistic delights through 2035+."

Jay Miller (erobertparker.com) "The 2006 The Pict is 100% Mataro (Mourvedre) aged in 100% new French oak for 24 months. The fruit was sourced from one section of a vineyard planted in 1927. Purple-colored, it offers up an aromatic array of smoky oak, forest floor, black truffle, blueberry, and blackberry jam. On the palate it reveals a brawny, masculine personality with some austerity that should round out with a few years of additional bottle age. It should offer prime drinking from 2013 to 2026."

Schubert Estate is situated in one of the prime spots in the Barossa Valley, Roennfeldt Road, made famous by the Greenock Creek winery. The 2005 Shiraz “Goose-Yard Block” was aged in a mix of new and used French oak for 12-15 months. Opaque purple-colored, it exhibits a fragrant bouquet of pain grille, pepper, crushed rock, tar, licorice, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. Velvety, ripe, and seamless on the palate, the flavors are already complex, and the pure finish lasts for 60 seconds.

Strong colour; medium to full-bodied; generous cassis/plum fruit, supple and smooth.
Dark red. Textbook merlot notes of minty cherry and chocolate on the nose, with a deeper coffee tone. Fat and almost oily, with bitter-edged cherry and licorice flavors showing a meaty, earthy character. Powerful, chewy and dense, the dark cherry note repeating on the finish. This needs some air.
