Zalto Denk-Art Bordeaux Glass
For weightier style reds we recommend the Zalto Bordeaux glass, probably our most widely used glass when tasting in house, this glass is great for many different wines. The large bowl helping aerate and soften tannins whilst accentuating the wines depth and concentration. The Bordeaux glass is the ideal choice for Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Zinfandel, Bordeaux or Rhone style blends and many other red wines. Surprisingly, it is also the glass of choice for oaked Chardonnay as well, the shape of the bowl accentuating the balance of ripe fruits and oak.
Mazza is the venture of Dave and Anne Mazza who specialize in growing Spanish and Portuguese grape varieties from their family run, ten acre estate in Geographe, Western Australia. They produce wines from Tempranillo, Graciano, Bastardo, Tinta Cao, Touriga Nacional and Sousao, varieties that thrive in the warm, Mediterranean climate of Western Australia.
Dave is from a Southern Italian heritage and grew up watching his father making wines for their friends and family and decided that he wanted to take this to the next level and produce wine on a commercial level. Whilst pursuing a ten year career in finance, with many travels through Europe, Dave was always on the look out for the perfect site on which he could begin his dream career in winemaking. When he found out that a potential site was up for sale in Western Australia, Dave sent his father and uncles to inspect the land and upon receiving the news that it could be perfect, bought the land whilst still living 10,000 miles away.
Dave and Anne first planted the six varieties back in 2002 and produce five single variety wines and one blend of five called Cinque. Making their first vintage in 2004 and managing the vineyards completely by hand, they were the only producer in the Geographe region to plant these varieties and since then, many Western Australian producers have gone on to incorporate some of these varieties in their vineyards and wines.
They were inspired to plant such varieties by their travels through Spain and Portugal, gathering influence from the wines of Rioja and the World Heritage vineyards of the Douro, Dave and Anne seek to translate these as Australian interpretations and remain the only Australian vineyard to present this collection of grapes from a single site.
Their risk of going against the norm of planting French varieties paid off and their wines have received several accolades including a Gold Medal for their Tempranillo in the Australian Alternative Awards as well as receiving the top prize for Wine Innovation and Business Acumen at the International Wine Fair’s Wine Stars World competition.
