About Mulline

Mulline is an exciting new wine brand created by Ben Mullen and Ben Hine and we are absolutely thrilled to be their UK agent. The purpose and concept of Mulline is to produce single site, structural wines with definition and freshness that bring new ardour and vitality to the Geelong region.

Their wines are crafted by Ben Mullen who grew up in the Barossa and studied at Adelaide University. Ben has worked at numerous wineries around Australia including Yarra Yering, Oakridge, Torbreck, Leeuwin Estate, and worked as winemaker at Craggy Range in Hawkes Bay in 2015. His love for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay truly originated during his harvest at Domaine Dujac in 2013.

Ben was credited with significant industry recognition for his two years at the helm at Clyde Park, winning the Shiraz Trophy at the National Wine Show (2017 vintage) and the Geelong Trophy at the Australian Pinot Noir Challenge for 2017 and 2018. After only a few years making wine in the Geelong region, getting to know the people, and seeing the fruit quality available, Ben considered that he had no other choice than to create a 100% Geelong based brand. And so Mulline was born.

Geelong is an exciting region in which to be making wine, it is split into three very different sub-regions (Moorabool Valley, The Bellarine Peninsula and Surf Coast). The sub-regionality allows Ben the opportunity to craft some very different and interesting styles of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah. He uses predominately French oak (some Austrian barrels in the Fumé Blanc) and full solids in his white wines and whole bunches in the reds.

Like Ben Mullen, Ben Hine hails from South Australia originally. Ben Hine studied law and is currently working full time in the legal industry. Before law, he worked in hospitality for many years and developed an irresistible passion for wine. After meeting Ben Mullen, he was the guiding force to start the brand and to work towards building a business. Ben Hine does a lot of the behind the scenes work and, more importantly, the paperwork!

Mulline’s five-year aspiration is to expand the collection of their Single Vineyard wines and to develop their range when suitable vineyards become available. The boys also have plans to purchase a property and plant a 'home site' for Mulline in the Geelong region. Their vision is to continue to produce Single Vineyard and Geelong Region ranges with fruit sourced from their current sites. A new range of wines will be introduced which will be made exclusively from their 'home site.'

The artwork for the Mulline Single Vineyard labels is by the superb Amy Wright, an artist from Geelong who focuses on abstract landscape paintings, particularly of the Otways. Ben and Ben commissioned Amy to do her first vineyard painting of their future vineyard inspired by the Geelong region (oil on canvas). Extracts of the painting are used on the front labels of the four Single Vineyard wines. The Geelong Region range labels are Amy’s concept watercolours which led to the vineyard painting. The “concepts” were too good not to share on their labels.
