90 Points - Robert Parker

The 2006 Cabernet was aged for 17 months in a mix of new and used French and American oak. Purple-colored, it offers up notes of cedar, vanilla, pencil lead, black currant and blackberry. This is followed by a full-bodied, structured Cabernet with a plush texture, layered flavors, soft tannins, and a 45-second finish. Give it 4-6 years in the cellar and drink it through 2026.

91 Points - Josh Raynolds

Ruby-red color. Intensely perfumed nose displays lively cherry, cassis and blackberry scents, along with fresh and dried flowers; I don't find any herbal qualities. Smooth red and dark fruit flavors coat the palate and gain energy with air. Leaves a strong bitter cherry quality behind, with the floral quality echoing. Winos put off by cabernet's often strident herbacity will go for this.

Region

McLaren Vale is situated south of The Barossa Valley in South Eastern Australia. The local climates vary enormously according to altitude and exposure to the cooling sea breezes. Red grapes flourish here due to the warm climate and varied soil type and the region is best known for soft and juicy Shiraz, old-vine Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The climate is similar to that of the Mediterranean climate with four clear seasons. We can highly recommend the producers Kay Brothers, Clarendon Hills and Shirvington Estate from whom we have some fantastic wines.
