Read our Christmas Q&A with Don and Valerie from Devotus
Michel Chapoutier needs little introduction as one of the greatest winemakers in the Rhone however, few know of Domaine Bila-Haut, Michel’s Roussillon property which he purchased in 2000.
Devotus is the first wine venture of Don McConachy and Valerie Worsdale who upon returning to New Zealand in 2013.
Their inaugural 2012 vintage was an immediate sell-out in New Zealand and the latest vintages are award-winning.
Domaine du Clos du Caillou continues to make some of the most profound, layered and sexy wines of this sun-drenched appellation.
If it's good enough for the Queen Mother and the Presidents of the USA, then it's certainly good enough for you!
Only 300 bottles are heading to the UK and we have been selected to offer 180 bottles to our customers.
Sadly the Varner brothers, Bob and Jim have ended their collaboration with the Neely family, which in short means the 2014’s are the last wines the Varner’s made in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Of course this is not a decision made by the brothers themselves, as they are universally regarded as some of the finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir producers in the US today. Their landlords, the Neely family, simply want their land back – Who wouldn’t when your tenants have produced some amazing wines year in year out?
Antonio Galloni sums up succinctly “This is a real loss to the region and the wine world more broadly, as the Varners made stunning Chardonnays and Pinots from these sites”.
The Varners have moved to Santa Barbara County, where they are making a new Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the El Camino and Los Alamos vineyards respectively. Both wines deliver superb quality for the money however, they have many years to go as their Santa Cruz Mountain wines remain reference points for what is possible in these mountain terroirs; namely world-class, rich, phenolic Chardonnays and intense Pinot Noirs.
To that end, and to celebrate the end of an era with brilliance from the Santa Cruz Mountains, we are delighted to offer their final vintage and the superb 2012 Foxglove Chardonnay.
