97 Points - Jeremy Oliver

A massive but supremely elegant and tightly controlled wine, the HJ from 2002 combines dark, brooding fruit with a muscular extract that is still losing some blocky edges. Exemplary in its length and balance, it will develop for ages, if given the chance.

94 Points - James Halliday

Very good colour; a restrained elegance and finesse which belies the alcohol; plum, spice and blackberry run through a long, sustained palate.

Jeremy Oliver

Producer

Oliver’s Taranga have a long and distinguished history in the McLaren Vale and celebrated their 170th anniversary in 2011. They have owned and worked some of the prime vineyard land in the area and have consistently produced an impressive range of premium, age-worthy wines since their inception in 1839. They have also provided grapes for use in the making of Australia’s illustrious Penfolds Grange and have done so regularly - for 14 vintages since 1996. The Oliver family’s passion and quality focus in everything they do is displayed in both the wines they produce and the accolades they achieve – they have gained and maintained a 5 star rating from James Halliday’s’ Wine Companion, which is only awarded to outstanding wineries who regularly produce wines of exemplary quality and typicity, where they join some of Australia’s most iconic wineries - Penfolds, Wendouree and Henschke to name just a few.

Oliver's Taranga Vineyards

Region

McLaren Vale is situated south of The Barossa Valley in South Eastern Australia. The local climates vary enormously according to altitude and exposure to the cooling sea breezes. Red grapes flourish here due to the warm climate and varied soil type and the region is best known for soft and juicy Shiraz, old-vine Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The climate is similar to that of the Mediterranean climate with four clear seasons. We can highly recommend the producers Kay Brothers, Clarendon Hills and Shirvington Estate from whom we have some fantastic wines.
