96 Points - Robert Parker "The 2013 Chardonnay Ross Station Estate displays clean quince, white currant, honeysuckle and pineapple notes, a touch of hazelnut, and a full-bodied, rich, concentrated, multi-layered mouthfeel. This is another brilliant Chardonnay to drink over the next 4-6 years."

‘I admire things that are well done, a fine painting, a quality car, a well-executed meal, I enjoy quality, skill, expertise.’ Paul Hobbs
Twice named 'Wine Personality of the Year’ by Robert Parker and given the title of ‘Steve Jobs of the Wine World’ by Forbes Magazine, it is obvious why the meticulous and dedicated winemaker Paul Hobbs has been so successful. Beyond his own vineyards in Sonoma County and Napa Valley, (Paul Hobbs Winey and Crossbarn Winery) Paul is an international consultant known for his outstanding work in Argentina (Viña Cobos). He is also now involved in a joint venture in the Finger Lakes region of New York, so hopefully we can anticipate some interesting Rieslings and possibly Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc and even Gewurztraminer emerging from New York State.
Here at The Vinorium, our Paul Hobbs allocation is a sell-out every year to those long-time supporters and it is not hard to see why, with scores of 100 Parker Points for both his Beckstoffer Dr Crane Vineyard 2013 and Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard 2013. The 2014 vintages of these wines were scored 98-100 Points and 96-100 Points respectively, so it is clear to see that Paul Hobbs’ wines continue to be some of the best in the world.
"California is the largest and most important wine region in the US – in fact, if California were a separate country it would be the world’s fourth largest wine producer!"
California is the largest and most important wine region in the US – in fact, if California were a separate country it would be the world’s fourth largest wine producer! California stretches along the west coast of the USA meaning that soils and climates vary enormously depending on the area’s altitude, latitude and proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Generally the cooler regions closer to the coast are most suited to the growing of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, whilst further inland (where the climate is much hotter) some of California’s most famous Cabernet Sauvignon wines are grown. The famous Ridge Estate is located here and produces some of the best and most sought after wines in California. If you enjoy Chardonnay, we highly recommend you take a look at Liquid Farm Winery, whose Chardonnay’s (we believe!) rival those of Burgundy. Within California you find some world famous regions including Napa Valley, Sonoma Coast and Santa Barbara and within these can be found small sub-regions, known as AVA’s with unique micro-climates creating characterful, terroir driven wines. Our selection includes some exclusives to the Vinorium such as Anthill Farms Campbell Ranch Pinot Noir 2014, Talbott’s Sleepy Hollow Chardonnay 2016 from their legendary Grand Cru rated vineyard and Chanin’s Sandford & Benedict Chardonnay 2014. Other highlights of our California collection include the cult wines from Orin Swift, the incredible wines of DuMol, a favourite of Rober Parker, the 99 point scoring Continuum and many other icon of US wines like Varner, Ramey, Paul Lato and Stolpman.
