Struck match fades with a few minutes of aeration to reveal a whole spectrum of aromas ranging from confit lemon, sea spray, freshly squeezed lemon and lime, lots of minerality and a background of beeswax. The palate is flawless, everlasting with the weight and crystalline delineation of a Grand Cru Burgundy. It’s certainly not shy in coming forward but does offer enough restraint not to be too overwhelming. There’s a lovely satin texture with a killer line of acidity running through its core. More savoury than fruity with white toast, cashew and creamy chalkiness / oiliness which coats the palate. Harmonious and the little bottle age has done it wonders. Clearly, we should seriously re-consider our price! Drink now through to 2030. Served with Zalto Bordeaux glassware.”

Petaluma began in 1976 with the philosophy of growing the best grapes in the region they are best suited for. From this ethos, a portfolio grew which consisted of Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra, Chardonnay and Shiraz from Adelaide Hills and Riesling from Clare Valley. Fruit is grown in specially selected vineyard sites in sub-regions that further show ideal properties for getting the best out of the specific varieties. In Adelaide Hills they identified the Piccadilly Valley for it’s great potential for producing top Chardonnay, and is home to some of the first Chardonnay vines planted in Adelaide Hills. Fruit from these vineyards are used to produce their Tiers Chardonnay whilst their Yellow Label B&V Shiraz certified organic vineyard Shiraz from Mount Barker.
In South Australia on the coast you find the Adelaide Hills region, one of the highest and coolest regions in Australia. Within Adelaide Hills are two sub-regions, Piccadilly Valley and Lenswood, that are noted for their unique soils and micro-climates and with conditions in Piccadilly Valley being not too dissimilar from Champagne, not only does Chardonnay and Pinot Noir thrive here, but various other cool climate varieties such as Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Gris. Petaluma source grapes from Clare Valley and Coonawarra but are based in Adelaide Hills and use the unique conditions found here to produce high quality Shiraz and Chardonnay.
