Winemakers notes: 2013 summed up to be a perfect vintage with clear sunny days and cool evenings. This produced a long, moderate growing season with extended hang time and even ripening, resulting in a full range of flavors while retaining natural acidity.

We press the whole clusters for delicacy. Native-yeast and full native malolactic fermentation take place in barrel, with sur lies bâtonnage. After aging 12 months in 20% new French and Hungarian oak barrels (François Frères and Demptos), this Chardonnay is fined and stabilized in tank during the following harvest. It was then bottled without filtration in February, 2015.

Coming from these two special vineyard sites (77% Martinelli Charles Ranch Vineyard; 23% Platt Vineyard), our Sonoma Coast Chardonnays show great depth of flavor, length of finish, aromatic complexity, and a fine balance between richness and delicacy. These two vineyards have typically cool climates, low vigor soil, and a vine selection that generate small berries, small clusters and inherently low yields.

Joe D'Angelo (International Wine Report) "The 2013 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is is sourced from 77% Martinelli Charles Ranch Vineyard; 23% Platt Vineyard. This elegant Chardonnay delivers pretty aromas of fresh sliced pear, quince, white peach, lemon zest along with vanilla blossom, sliced almond and flinty minerals. It is beautifully balanced with wonderful acidity leading up to the bright, focused finish. This is showing beautifully right now and should continue to do so over the next few years. (Best 2016-2021)"

Ramey Wine Cellars was founded in 1996 by David Ramey and his wife Carla, David has spent sixteen years as a wine making in Sonoma and a further six years working with and helping to establish several wineries in Napa. He has also helped to pioneer many traditional, artisan winemaking techniques helping to shape the way that many Californian wines are made to day, introducing barrel fermentation, malolactic fermentation and lees aging at a time when these methods were not practiced in the California. David gained a graduate degree from the University of California where he wrote thesis in 1979 which is still used today to better understand how wine ages. Following this, he worked for a period at Chateau Petrus, learning all he could about the art of French winemaking and applying this to the grapes in California’s wine regions.

With several vineyards planted across Napa and Sonoma, planted with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, Ramey Wine Cellars have quickly gained critical notoriety, high scores and great reviews from many respected wine writers which include Jancis Robinson and Jeb Dunnuck.

"California is the largest and most important wine region in the US – in fact, if California were a separate country it would be the world’s fourth largest wine producer!"

California is the largest and most important wine region in the US – in fact, if California were a separate country it would be the world’s fourth largest wine producer! California stretches along the west coast of the USA meaning that soils and climates vary enormously depending on the area’s altitude, latitude and proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Generally the cooler regions closer to the coast are most suited to the growing of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, whilst further inland (where the climate is much hotter) some of California’s most famous Cabernet Sauvignon wines are grown. The famous Ridge Estate is located here and produces some of the best and most sought after wines in California. If you enjoy Chardonnay, we highly recommend you take a look at Liquid Farm Winery, whose Chardonnay’s (we believe!) rival those of Burgundy. Within California you find some world famous regions including Napa Valley, Sonoma Coast and Santa Barbara and within these can be found small sub-regions, known as AVA’s with unique micro-climates creating characterful, terroir driven wines. Our selection includes some exclusives to the Vinorium such as Anthill Farms Campbell Ranch Pinot Noir 2014, Talbott’s Sleepy Hollow Chardonnay 2016 from their legendary Grand Cru rated vineyard and Chanin’s Sandford & Benedict Chardonnay 2014. Other highlights of our California collection include the cult wines from Orin Swift, the incredible wines of DuMol, a favourite of Rober Parker, the 99 point scoring Continuum and many other icon of US wines like Varner, Ramey, Paul Lato and Stolpman.

Zalto Denk-Art Universal Glass

For richer, oaked Sauvignon Blancs such as The Fuder, white Graves or Semillon/Sauvignon blends. For young and non-vintage Champagne we recommend Zalto Universal. However, the Zalto Universal is a very good all-rounder, designed for all types of wines but may not maximize the potential of certain wine as much as the Bordeaux or Burgundy glass.
