Rhône Alternatives

France has had an undeniable influence on the world of wine with many of the world’s most notorious wines coming from some of the world most notorious regions. These regions have lent their names to wine blends, most notably the Bordeaux blend and the Rhone blend of Cab/Merlot and the GSM – Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre, that are responsible for some of wines most renowned names.

The new world has adopted these blends and grape varieties with incredible success, taking them to new levels, utilising the terroirs, climates, soils and ancient vines to bring a new spin on these old-world classics.

Here we are focusing on the Rhone varieties, both red and white. With shiraz making a natural home for itself in Australia. With bush vines grown on the dry soils of many of its most well-known regions, it is no wonder that over the past several decades, Australian winemakers have crafted exceptional examples of the Rhone blend that don’t just rival but surpass some of the best found in its homeland.
