Santa Barbara is a region found towards the southern end of California on the coast. The region is sandwiched between two mountain ranges with vineyards ranging from 200 to 3400 feet in elevation, a variety of grapes are able to grow here some inland areas are just warm enough to ripen Cabernet Sauvignon. However, the region is famed for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with the cooling breezes and fogs channelled from the Pacific to the vineyards nearer the coast produced by such wineries as Chanin Wines, who create fantastic wines from the Sta Rita Hills and Santa Maria Valley AVA’s. Ballard Canyon is found just slightly to the east and is known for growing Rhone varieties both red and white. Stolpman Vineyards are a leading name of this AVA producing wines from Syrah and Roussanne.
