98 Points, Stuart McCloskey - tasting note coming soon.

96 Points - Nick Stock (James Suckling.com) "This has a slightly reductive edge to the nose with sliced-lemon, grilled-almond and peach character. Really fresh and pristine. The palate has a very impressive, concentrated feel with nectarines, peaches and citrus fruit. So pure and long. Drink now. Screw cap."

Gary Walsh, The Wine Front "Sizzle sizzle Suckfizzle. It’s electric, tight, and intense, with length that’s so above average, it’s slightly embarrassing. Hazelnut, spice, lime juice, struck match. It has a nutty flavour and texture, but bursts with all the citrus and a bit of green melon. Chalk and zip from acidity. A suggestion of brine and umami too. It’s a kind of magic."

Winemakers notes
Aroma: The prevailing Antarctic winds create distinction and character in this wine.  Salty, sea-sprayed fruit contributes to a unique and complex oyster shell character. Salty nougat, nutty character, peach fuzz, zesty citrus and smoky oak round out the generous nose.

Palate: Incredible power of fruit. Textured and mouthwatering, there is obvious chemistry between the fruit and the oak. Flavours of crushed lime, lemon and sea salt. Lively mineral acidity and layered texture. Pure, powerful and unparalleled Chardonnay.

Zalto Denk-Art Bordeaux Glass

The Zalto Bordeaux glass is recommended for weightier style reds, probably our most widely used glass when tasting in house, this glass is great for many different wines. The large bowl helping aerate and soften tannins whilst accentuating the wine's depth and concentration. The Bordeaux glass is the ideal choice for Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Zinfandel, Bordeaux or Rhône style blends and many other red wines. Surprisingly, it is also the glass of choice for oaked Chardonnay, the shape of the bowl accentuating the balance of ripe fruits and oak.

Stella Bella

Producer

Such is the excellence of all wines produced at this estate that in a blind taste test one would be forgiven for thinking it was Bordeaux. Set up by Stuart Pym more than 20 years ago, this outstanding boutique operation benefits from Margaret River’s maritime climate which is almost identical to south-western France’s premier red wine region. James Halliday frequently awards the property his coveted 5 star rating for excellence and the individual wines always shine in leading competitions such as the Decanter World Wine Awards and the International Wine Challenge. The range includes estate wines under the Stella Bella label, the Suckfizzle label from a single vineyard and the premium Luminosa label. Sourced from the 5 different vineyard areas owned by the Stella Bella, quality is always at the forefront of every bottle that leaves the wine winery. The Stella Bella estate wines are either varietal or traditional blends offering an affordable introduction to the styles they represent. These are the bulk of production and often sell out immediately upon release due to the excellent price quality ratio.

"The list of awards given to this tiny area in Australia’s most isolated region is endless and it’s no wonder that Margaret River is dominating Australia’s premium sector.."

Perched all the way over on Australia’s most south westerly tip is Margaret River. A region that accounts for less than 5% of Australia’s wine production but is responsible for 20% of the premium wines and the lion’s share of awards. Probably best known as the region that produces some of the new world’s finest Cabernet, Margaret River specialises not only in red and white, Bordeaux style wines but the region is also gaining a reputation for premium Chardonnays that rival some of the best found in Burgundy. Deep Woods have scooped up a multitude of awards across their range, including five gold medals and a staggering 98 points awarded for their Single Vineyard Cabernet Malbec 2017. Nocturne’s 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon picked up three trophies including Best Red Wine of Show. Watershed make no secret of their list of accolades, their labels crammed with gold medals and trophies and all but one of Flowstone’s wines have been awarded 95 points or above. The list of awards given to this tiny area in Australia’s most isolated region is endless and it’s no wonder that Margaret River is dominating Australia’s premium sector.
