Exclusive to The Vinorium
97 Points - Sam Kim (Wine Orbit) "A profound pinot; the captivating bouquet shows dark cherry, blueberry, violet, cedar and game characters with a hint of dried herb note. The palate is concentrated and weighty, while remaining poised and refined, backed by velvety mouthfeel and fine tannins. Gracefully powerful and alluringly seductive. At its best: 2019 to 2030."
Winemaker "Deep garnet hue with a fascinating array of aromas from mineral and floral to earthy/animal and baking spice/wild thyme. The fruit shines through on the palate with bright cherry, blackberry and mulberry complimented by a rich earthy vein. The savoury characteristics from a cool and exceptionally low cropping vintage are sensational when married with the classic Gibbston silky, fine tannins and electric acidity. Perhaps our most intriguing Pinot to date from this vineyard with vine age playing an important role in capturing a special vintage. This punchy young wine gives immediate gratification but it has all the hallmarks of a wine that is very worthy of cellaring and will show even more exciting features for many years to come."

Zalto Denk-Art Burgundy Glass
The Zalto Burgundy glass is recommended for all Pinot Noirs, designed almost specifically for Pinot’s delicate aromas. The aromas of Pinot Noir are often the most delicate, but when revealed can be the most enticing and pretty. The Zalto Burgundy glass is the widest of all the Zalto glasses providing the largest surface area for wine. This allows for rapid aeration, revealing all of the delicate spice, herb, floral, earth and berry aromas to be maximized. The narrower rim holding these aromas for an unparalleled experience of the elegant subtleties. The Zalto Burgundy is also very good for Nebbiolo, especially Barolo.
"Jen Parr from Valli Vineyards has been awarded Gourmet Traveller WINE’s 2020 NZ Winemaker of the Year."
Grant Taylor is as important to New Zealand winemaking as Freddie Mercury was to the music industry. Grant has produced the first vintages for many of the region’s most reputable wineries including Felton Road, Mt Difficulty, Bald Hills, Mount Edward, Carrick, Hawkshead, Mondillo, Perrigrine, Rockburn (aka Hay’s Lake). His accomplishments also include winning the Best Pinot Noir Trophy at the International Wine Competition an unprecedented three times – a feat achieved by no other winemaker in the world…
Since 1998 Grant has been a winemaker at one of New Zealand’s undisputed super-stars, Valli Vineyards, which has enjoyed an unparalleled level of success. Many believe (as we firmly do) Valli Vineyards produce consistently better wines than Felton Road. We acknowledge Felton Road enjoys the No:1 position however, many believe this is purely down to marketing and previous successes.
The aim at Valli is to produce single vineyard wines, which express their unique character of each Otago sub-region with clarity and absolute purity. Four distinctive Pinot Noirs are bottled under the following labels - Gibbston, Bannockburn, Bendigo and the newest on the map, Waitaki.
Fellow winemaker Jen Parr from Valli, has recently been awarded 'Gourmet Traveller WINE’s 2020 NZ Winemaker of the Year' who had the following to say about her, "Winemaker at Central Otago’s Valli Wines and consultant winemaker for several other producers, Jen is a deserving winner. She is driven by enthusiasm, asks questions and tests the answers, and her passion for pinot noir is inspiring. “Pinot noir may flirt with your senses but it has the power to really engage the mind,” she says. “I guess you might say it is a grape for intellectual hedonists!” In the words of Bob Campbell MW, she is one of New Zealand’s “most promising young winemakers.” Congratulations, Jen"
Central Otago is a beautiful and powerful place situated on the South Island of New Zealand with land dominated by rivers and mountains and shaped by glaciers. Part of the Otago region, the climate here goes from one extreme to the other and is the coldest, yet driest part of the country which allows for a deep concentration of fruit flavours in the grapes. In this region vines are planted in desert conditions, however the plethora of rivers running through make it ideal for vineyard irrigation. It’s New Zealand's most famous region for Pinot Noir, located inland, and home to some of the world’s most southerly vineyards, Central Otago has several well-known sub-regions including Bannockburn, the warmest part of the region and home to Felton Road who create several single vineyard expressions of pinot noir. Valli Vineyards are owned by winemaker Grant Taylor, a man who has been an instrumental part of Central Otago’s wine industry since its very beginning. Valli produce four distinct Pinot Noirs, each from a different sub-region, Gibbston, Bannockburn, Bendigo and Waitaki, highlighting the unique differences between each of their character.
