Pintia is the younger brother of Vega Sicilia’s legendary Unico (97 points @ £1,200.00 IB per case of 6 bottles) which is unquestionably improving hugely year on year, and with its price-tag a whopping 8 times less than its sibling, Pintia gives devotees of the brand a superb wine of comparable quality but at a much more approachable price level and there is no doubt that in the 2010 vintage, they have excelled themselves. Since the first vintage in 2001, the wine has gone from strength to strength. 2006 was probably the turning point in style, expressing more elegance whilst retaining the Toro hallmark of power. Yes, the 15 % abv reminds us that the wine is nothing short of being weak but the stony element in the soil with its high acid content has been translated into the wine and brings a wonderful balance and feeling of freshness throughout. This is high a class Toro wine with dark berry fruits and textured tannins, offering mocha notes after aeration.
