Our 2020 Deep Woods allocations are confirmed, and as previously communicated, ‘Reserve’ Chardonnay & Cabernet Sauvignon are being reduced significantly.

On this occasion we are accepting what is being offered. However, and given the breadth and depth of our Australian portfolio, combined with diminishing allocations, it is highly likely this will be our last Deep Woods offering.

Given the fading numbers, we have more customers for reserve wines than we do physical bottles, which makes the job of allocating difficult. As such, these are being offered on a pre-arrival basis and strictly on a first-come-first-served basis. Currently, these are being offered in six-packs only. Any unsold stock (which is highly unlikely) will be offered by the bottle.

Deep Woods Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Royal Sydney Wine Show 2019 Gold Medal & 1 Trophy
• Best Cabernet Sauvignon

vintage: The 2017 growing season was by most measures, an excellent vintage. A long, cool-season yielded wines with intense flavour yet medium-bodied structure and moderate alcohol levels. The vintage was, however, punctuated by an unseasonably wet and cold February. Careful management by our viticultural team was key to maximising fruit quality, along with the perfect warm and dry months of March and April.

winemaking: Representing the pinnacle of Deep Woods’ house-style, this Cabernet Sauvignon was crafted from the ultra-low yielding, original vines on the estate coupled with fruit from another mature vinyeard, also in the Yallingup Hills in Margaret River.

Throughout fermentation each batch was pumped over between four to two times daily depending on the stage of fermentation to gently extract colour, flavour and tannin. The wine was gently passed directly to a combination of new and seasoned French barriques where it matured in oak for approximately 18 months.

97+ Points - Stuart McCloskey “Unmistakably Deep Woods with aeronautical precision. Tightly coiled and needs a little time in the decanter / glass to unfurl. The palate offers wonderful symmetry and glides gracefully and with consummate ease. It is young but the sense of depth is impressive – it fans out beautifully with more time in the glass. It offers tension, structure and impeccable balance. I would love to see this in a blind tasting, pitched against Burgundies at double the price. Very classy and the wine’s sophistication versus the price makes it unmissable. It’s a joy now but patience will be rewarded further (I imagine it will be hitting all the high notes in five years). A fabulous wine, magnificent for the money and with a long future ahead. Served using Zalto Bordeaux Glassware.

98 Points - James Halliday "An impressive wine all round. All the major attributes are turned up in volume as well as in contrast. Vibrant dark colour, ripe black fruits, plums, cedar, bay leaf, fine chalky tannins plus length. But the most important attribute is the key to all fine wine: balance. Everything is in balance, despite the high volume. Super wine."

Deep Woods Hillside Chardonnay 2015

China Wine & Spirits Awards 2018 Gold Medal

95 points - James Halliday  "A decidedly complex bouquet with some reduction and a hint of fermentation with cloudy juice. This feeds into a palate of similar complexity, slatey minerality adding its contribution hand in hand with oak. To 2025. "

Winemakers notes "Pale straw. The wine exhibits lifted nectarine and white blossom characters. A suggestion of cedar-like oak frames the generous stone-fruit characters and complex chipped shell minerality. The palate is clean and lively with tremendous depth of ripe stone-fruit flavour nuanced by cashew notes. Bright citrusy acidity ensures a long and seamless finish providing enhanced structure and length."

Deep Woods Reserve Block 7 Shiraz 2015

Margaret River Wine Show 2016 Gold Medal
Decanter World Wine Award 2018 Silver Medal

96 points - James Halliday "Partly from the first planting at Deep Woods in '87, partly from an adjacent, mature vineyard. Whole bunches, cold soak and partial barrel fermentation are all in Julian Langworthy's arsenal, then a selection of the best French barriques that have matured the wine for 14 months. Deeply coloured, it is full-bodied, yet dazzlingly light on its feet on the finish and aftertaste, fruit, tannins and oak all on the same lines of the same page."

The Hillside Cabernet Sauvignon is a unique expression of the Margaret River wine region – one of the best Cabernet producing areas in the world. The fruit was sourced from mature vineyards in the Yallingup and Wilyabrup sub-regions of Margaret River and is crafted to be an expressive, yet drinkable, style of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Deep crimson with vivid purple hues. This wine exhibits aromas of cassis and dried herbs with hints of spice. The palate displays flavours of summer plums and dark berries with notes of sweet spice and dark chocolate from the use of both new and seasoned French oak. It is medium-bodied with fine, elegant tannin and persistent length. A true representation of Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon.

Deep Woods Hillside Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Royal Melbourne Wine Awards 2018 Gold Medal
Decanter World Wine Awards 2018 Silver Medal

The 2018 vintage was, in a word, outstanding. The growing season was steady and moderate, without spikes of heat seen in previous years. The aromatic varieties of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc performed exceptionally well across the region with vibrant, pristine fruit and racy, natural acidity. Partially fermented in a combination of seasoned and new oak barrels, using only indigenous yeasts with no acid additions, this is a wine that showcases Deep Woods' dedication to site selection and the region.

Pale straw. The wine exhibits lifted nectarine, ripe citrus and white blossom characters. A suggestion of cedar-like oak frames the generous stone fruit characters and complex minerality. The palate is clean and lively with tremendous depth of ripe stone-fruit complexed with texture from the barrel fermentation. Bright citrusy acidity ensures a long and seamless finish providing enhanced structure and length.

There are some good Rosé wines on the market and then there is Deep Woods Rosé, which is consistently Australia’s finest. The 2017 vintage (for rosé) was undoubtedly the best in Deep Woods Estate’s history. Both wines are blended with varying percentages of Tempranillo and Shiraz with a small proportion of Grenache to produce two wines of great character, delicacy and complexity...

The 2017 Estate Rosé is offered exclusively by
The Vinorium and is not available outside of Australia.

Deep Woods Estate Rosé 2017

Margaret River Wine Show 2017 Gold Medal

95 Points - James Halliday "The pale but bright hue opens the door for this blend of shiraz and tempranillo, chiefly tank-fermented, a small portion fermented in barrel. Its fragrant bouquet is attractive enough, but doesn't quite prepare you for the intensity and drive that spears through to the finish and aftertaste. Wild strawberry and hints of forest make this a very special rose."
