“The late Max Schubert was not a close relation of Steve and Cecilia Schubert, but I am sure he would be impressed with the estate’s Shiraz. Output is tiny, but the quality is truly outstanding, and will repay prolonged cellaring – a feature which Max Schubert sought to achieve when he embarked on the creation of Grange in the early 1950s”

James Halliday — Australia’s foremost wine critic

“This is a well-endowed, super-concentrated Shiraz with more elegance and finesse than typical for these blockbusters from South Australia.”--Goose-yard Block Shiraz”

'2017 Barossa Valley Shiraz Winery of the Year'
at Melbourne International Wine Competition

Two hidden gems
from the Barossa Valley

How these wineries managed to remain under the radar for decades beggars belief. Both estates produce truly unique wines, highly regarded for their elegance and finesse, which sets them apart from the archetypical Barossa style. Amongst countless gold medals from the world’s biggest wine competitions (including Decanter, IWC and the Royal Melbourne Wine Show to name of few) lies the Jimmy Watson Trophy, forever housed at one of the producers home cellars. We believe the key reason behind their minimal non-domestic exposure simply comes down to their respective minuscule production levels. As an example, Torbreck wines produce around 70,000 cases annually and they continue to be seen as a small, highly sought after winery… Demand will always outgrow the supply, making those who possess a bottle or two the very lucky ones. The Vinorium continues to bring some truly special and unique wines to our shores. It is not uncommon to see The Vinorium as one of very few world merchants (and sometimes the only one!) to offer museum vintages of world-class wines, as we do here.

2006 Schubert Estate
Goose Yard Block Shiraz

96 Points – Magdalena Sienkiewicz "A super-expressive nose with spiced fruit compote oozing from the glass together with fresh roasted coffee. Very classy and polished. The palate bursts with flavour in a beautiful dance of ripe fruit and Asian spices. Blueberries and raspberries are followed by crushed rocks, earthy spices and bitter chocolate. The wine flows seamlessly. Svelte tannins leading to a long and balanced finish with invigorating acidity making your palate feel refreshed and ready for more. One of the finest Barossa Valley Shiraz's I've tasted."

95 Points - Jay Miller (erobertparker.com) "The 2006 Shiraz Goose Yard Block offers a full-throttle, room-filling aromatic array of violets, Asian spices, truffle, wild blueberry, and black cherry jam. On the palate it is already strikingly complex, incredibly dense and concentrated, and impeccably balanced with fully integrated oak, tannin and acidity. The finish lasts for well over a minute. It will have a lengthy drinking window beginning in 2011 and lasting though 2026."

Elderton Single Vineyards

2006 Elderton Ashmead
Cabernet Sauvignon

95 Points – Jay Miller (erobertparker.com)

The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Ashmead is a single vineyard selection aged for 18 months in new French 300-liter barrels (aka hogsheads). It offers up a superb bouquet of pain grille, pencil lead, scorched earth, espresso, spice box, black currant, and blackberry liqueur. Opulent on the palate, it has gobs of succulent black fruit, well-concealed ripe tannins, impeccable balance, and a long finish. Cellar it for 5-7 years and drink it from 2014 to 2028.

2005 Elderton Ode To Lorraine

95 Points - Wine Spectator

Rich, focused and superbly concentrated to show off its intense, rosemary-accented black cherry, plum and blueberry flavors, riding smoothly on a dense, generous frame that feels plush and seductive, yet the flavors come through transparently. Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot.

2005 Elderton Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

92 Points - Stuart McCloskey

‘Brilliant’ in one word and a wine that should not garner 92+ given its low price tag. Make no mistake; this is a very serious wine which demands you seek it out.

2005 Elderton Estate Shiraz

International Wine Challenge: Gold 2008

92 Points - Stuart McCloskey

The multi award winning Shiraz (Gold at the IWC & 94 points Robert Parker) is a benchmark for Shiraz and for the Barossa region. The ’05 occurred slightly later than usual, resulting in excellent quality fruit with higher Baume, good natural acid and superb flavour. Ten years has taken the wine to a wonderful meaty edge not to dissimilar to a great Syrah from the Northern Rhone. Incredibly wine and value to boot.
