The End of Watershed: One of Margaret River’s Premium Wine Producers

Last summer, we communicated Watershed's sale of their wine business assets to their Margaret River neighbour, Vasse Felix. Watershed's ‘Awakening’ Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon being the premium target. At the time, we were unsure of their future, which is now crystal clear. Under the terms of the transaction Vasse Felix did not acquire Watershed's bottled or bulk wine. They have entered a 2-year lease over the cellar door, warehouse and administration facility with the objective of selling down their finished and bulk wine. In March 2019 Watershed accepted a deal for much of their bottled wine, which is now being sold-off – effectively as a fire-sale.

Stu has been in touch with the founder and MD, Geoff Barrett, who passes on his thanks for our collective support, but business is business, and this was a great opportunity and difficult to pass up. Geoff has a large truffle plantation in Manjimup which will keep him busy…

We have been given the green-light and financial support to sell-off all remaining UK stocks – The savings are quite honestly substantial.

Single Block Chardonnay 2016

Halliday Wine Companion  Awards
'The Best of the Best': Varietal Winners - Best Chardonnay 2019

98 Points - James Halliday "The soaring intensity and precision of the wine obliterates any comment about the oak. It is one of those uncommon chardonnays that demands you give it time, the more the merrier. Grapefruit is the masthead, but it gathers around it a suite of flavours that keep its energy and drive on track."

Silver Medal – 2017 Perth Royal Wine Show

96 Points - James Halliday "Small batch-fermented in French oak (18.5% new) on lees for 7 months with light battonage. The combination of high quality cool grown grapes and sensitive winemaking has produced this lovely chardonnay, the first release of a chardonnay in the Senses range. Delicacy teams with intensity (an oxymoron if ever there was one), grapefruit, white peach and nectarine the drivers, not the oak."
