17+ Points - Julia Harding (JancisRobinson.com)

Deep cherry red. Elegant after so much sweet fruit throughout this Australia tasting, more stony than leafy. Richer fruit on the palate but there’s freshness to balance. Tannins compact but smooth. A wine with a long future. Tangy long finish.

Produced from grapes grown in one of their original vineyards Alan’s Cabernet vineyard, the Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is only produced in the best Cabernet vintages and only the best bunches of grapes are used in the wine with only 1200 bottles of the 2012 being produced. The wine is matured for 22 months in 100% new French oak.

Region

Situated due North of Australia’s capital, Melbourne, the Heathcote region sits nestled between the Goulburn Valley and Bendigo region, in Central Victoria. Wine from this region stands out due to the perfect combination of warm climates and cool, southerly winds mixed with its ancient rich, red Cambrian soil. The region has become renowned in recent years for its Shiraz, which tends to be complex yet well-balanced. As well as Shiraz, the other red varieties such as Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon do well here, with whites such as Viognier and Chardonnay becoming increasing popular. From the Heathcote region, we have a selection of wine from two of its best wineries, Wild Duck Creek and Tatiarra.

Zalto Denk-Art Universal Glass

For richer, oaked Sauvignon Blancs such as The Fuder, white Graves or Semillon/Sauvignon blends. For young and non-vintage Champagne we recommend Zalto Universal. However, the Zalto Universal is a very good all-rounder, designed for all types of wines but may not maximize the potential of certain wine as much as the Bordeaux or Burgundy glass.
