96 Points - Antonio Galloni "Dark red-ruby. Pungent aromas of ripe dark berries, licorice and cedary oak. Wonderfully suave and fine-grained, boasting terrific concentration, intensity and energy to its dark berry and African violet flavors. This very suave Cabernet finishes with terrific cocoa-powder length and substantial but refined mounting tannins. Paul Golitzin told me that he always aims to get two tons of fruit per acre--"either by nature or through crop thinning." And he noted that his family now has full viticultural control over all of their properties."

Zalto Denk-Art Universal Glass

Due to further lockdowns in Austria we are experiencing extended delays with our Zalto orders.

We are currently expecting our next delivery to arrive October 2021.

The Zalto Universal glass is recommended for richer, oaked Sauvignon Blancs, white Graves or Semillon/Sauvignon blends as well as young and non-vintage Champagne. The Zalto Universal is a very good 'all-rounder', designed for all types of wine but in our opinion may not maximize the potential of certain wines quite as much as the Bordeaux or Burgundy glass.

Region

Situated in the Northwest of the USA, Washington is known as the 2nd largest premium wine producer in the United States after California, with over 900 wineries located across the state. The region produces great quality wines from a range of grape varieties and is planted with almost exactly a 50/50 split of red and white grapes. The most common are Riesling and Chardonnay for the whites and Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah for the reds. Being slightly further inland, Washington’s conditions are perfect for Cabernet Sauvignon that produces incredible dense and powerful wines either as a single variety or as a Bordeaux style blend. The majority of wine production is based on the eastern side, the region being separated by the Cascade Mountains which give protection from the Pacific weather from the west creating a rain shadow on the eastern side of the region. This create dry almost dessert like conditions, temperatures moderated by the influence from rivers running from the mountains. Washington’s reputation is that of quality, with some iconic producers and wines that rival many of the best found in California. Quilceda Creek are one such producer who create very long-lived, powerful Cabernet Sauvignon, their 2015 vintage scoring 99 points. Gramercy Cellars are also a producer with a great reputation for producing outstanding Cabernet led wines as well as creating outstanding examples from Rhone varieties.
