Massena The Twilight Path Primitivo 2020£17.95 per bottle Also available In Bond for £76.35 per case of 6 “As one of The Vinorium’s shiraz swilling oiks I was only too happy to try a different grape variety from a favoured producer. Wow, this is so damn good and testament to Jaysen Collins’s exceptional ability to craft unbelievable wines with twangy fresh intensity that are super value and screaming to be drunk young (his JC Ferine is another case in point). It’s a hard road trying to find wines that satisfy as you desperately try and hold the big guns until they are fully mature. This is wine is set to be a key member of my armoury to help me achieve this.” Grey Sands The Mattock 2018£26.95 per bottle “To use the modern vernacular, the Richters have nailed it again with their 2018 'The Mattock'. Bursting with berries, this well-structured wine will develop if cellared, but also repays the impatient with its delicious perfume and complex flavours.” Gemtree Wines Small Batch Cabernet Sauvignon 2019£30.95 per bottle Also available In Bond for £141.35 per case of 6 “Super stunning. Sharp, precise and none of the flab or oak that can be present in young new world Cabernet Sauvignons.” Gemtree Wines Obsidian Shiraz 2019£42.50 per bottle Also available In Bond for £199.10 per case of 6 “My favourite Gemtree so far. Rich, and fantastic straight out of the bottle. Proper Shiraz. Goes down so easily. Yummy!!!” Standish The Relic Shiraz Viognier 2017£64.95 per bottle Also available In Bond for £306.90 per case of 6 “Being a Northern Rhone drinker I've always been slightly sceptical of syrah wines outside of this region. I've just never found the same level of balance, savouriness, and power. In the case of this wine I was wrong to be concerned. This wine is a work of precision and is very much like drinking a top class Cote Rotie, although it does have a distinct character which is all its own. The touch of viognier provides a lovely bit of freshness which balances against the meatiness and spice of the Syrah. This is superb!” Utopos Cabernet Sauvignon 2019£34.95 per bottle Also available In Bond for £165.00 per case of 6 “I'll try and keep for as long as I can but we were having dinner a couple of months ago and I opened a bottle with a good friend. We both agreed that it was possibly the best wine we'd ever tasted even after just 2 years in the bottle. He was so impressed he's now ordered a load from you and every time we see each other he says "shall we have another one!" An amazing wine and fully deserving of your praiseworthy comments.” “Theres an old saying you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. Pretend you are a horse for a moment my advice to you would be take that drink while it's there. Whenever one is fortunate to taste a truly fine wine it engages your senses full on and those moments are ingrained in your sensory memory. The fact that some of the grapes in this Utopos Cabernet were previously sought after for the iconic Penfolds Bin 707 does not surprise me. A wine I drank regularly in the nineties and yes you are reading correctly for 14.99. Have a look at today's price. And one more thing, I recently tasted, over a few leisurely evenings, two you could say legendary wines, those were a 2013 Spottswoode one of America's cult Cabernets and a 1998 Ch Angelus both great vintages. Both wines were outstanding but for me for current drinking put a glass or two (hard to resist) of the Utopos Cabernet 2019 in my direction. And if that does not convince you take a look at the price for one bottle of the 1998 Ch Angelus you could purchase an entire 12 bottle case of the Utopos Cabernet 2019 for the same money... a truly remarkable wine from an estate obviously doing all the correct things. No wonder the Vinorium were ecstatic by their diligent research to unravel such precious gems.” Utopos Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz Blend 2019£34.95 per bottle Also available In Bond for £165.00 per case of 6 “First try of the Shiraz/Cab blend and WOW; the most fantastic wine of the year. Just drinking so beautifully right now, tannins tucked in nice and tight, super intense but so damn welcoming. We absolutely loved it. I propose purchasing Utopos, but particularly this blend, will I hope go down as a Vinorium high point for you! Bravo” “Very nice indeed. I like it a lot. Heady, perfumed nose. Spicy and delicious mouth feel. Bang for your buck!!!” Utopos Shiraz Blend 2017£34.95 per bottle Also available In Bond for £165.00 per case of 6 “SPECTACULAR. That's the exact word. I could say: balanced acidity, intense flavor, long finish, blah, blah, blah.... But, spectacular. All other words are superfluous. In my opinion there is no need to decant. I'm testing it right now, wonderful.” Domaine Simha Rama Pinot Noir 2017£41.50 per bottle Also available In Bond for £194.12 per case of 6 “The best Pinot I’ve ever had. Period. A haunting, ethereal bouquet.” Soumah Equilibrio Pinot Noir 2019£35.95 per bottle “Epic. Up there with the Burgundys twice or more the price. Delicious sweet juicy flavours and great length. Coulter Wines C4 Experimental Syrah Eden Valley 2019£24.95 per bottle Last 20 bottles “With the first sip I instinctively thought ‘where is the iPad’ to order some more. That to me says it all and now I have ordered another six I am selfishly ready to rate! I have recently tasted Utopos and Standish and still am completely blown away by the quality of this Syrah. I agree with Stu: who knows the drinking window - who cares! This is THE wine to drink whilst you wait for the big guns mentioned to mature. Get in quick so you don’t have FOMOOW.” Deep Woods Estate Hillside Cabernet Sauvignon 2019£17.95 per bottle Last 3 bottles “I like this very much. Thanks to the Vinorium, I’ve been fortunate enough to sample some fabulous wines from this estate, but more importantly, the winemaker, Julian Langworthy. His wines are very consistent and exude concentration, control and poise. I’m a Langworthy fanboy and his craft has opened up my eyes to this astonishing wine region.” Coulter Wines C1 Chardonnay Adelaide Hills 2019£24.95 per bottle “OH YES, this is a brilliant wine. I’m not hugely qualified in all things Chardonnay but have recently been drinking Hardys Eileen so have a decent benchmark. This has a classic Chardonnay backbone along with a welcome freshness; even a floral quality. Super enjoyable and a great example of jumping on any experienced wine makers personal project. Thinking they naturally put just a little more of their heart and soul into the winemaking....” Grey Sands Pinot Blanc 2018£27.50 per bottle “WOW!! This is AMAZING! Such a structured, delightful wine. Easily drinkable by itself, but very much for us a food wine, We enjoyed this with smoked salmon pate, the combination was sublime. Such a vibrant but balanced wine given its age. Our only dilemma is how to keep it for a few years to explore how it will unfold without the temptation to drink it!” Gemtree Wines Small Batch Marsanne 2020£25.95 per bottle Also available In Bond for £116.35 per case of 6 “A beautifully complex, structured and savoury white. Definitely improved between the first and second glass, perhaps as we’d had a chance to unpick the different elements. This is an excellent wine, regardless. But truly stands alone with quality v price when compared to some old world examples.” “We drink a lot of Rhône and Marsanne is such a joy. Living with a red wine drinker, negotiation around a white can be complex - Marsanne greases the wheels. I opened Gemtree’s with two classic Northern Rhône classics and this seriously held its own with its sweet, herbal drinkability. Agree that this example is punching well above its weight vs. old world. Another great addition to Gemtree’s fab line up.” Soumah Single Vineyard Hexham Chardonnay 2018£19.95 per bottle "Sometimes when we speak of a wine offering great value there is a but... there is however no buts with this fabulous offering from Soumah it delivers on all fronts big time and is such a joy. To find a chardonnay of this quality and complexity at this price one has to doff one's cap in recognition to the fabulous team at the Vinorium for their research in bringing this wine to the attention of their customers. The more I taste of Australian chardonnay the more I am seduced by the world class quality of its winemakers." JC's Own Sierra Nevada Foothills Chardonnay 2018£27.50 per bottle “Always excited to try a new JC’s wine and this didn’t let the side down. A beautiful glass of wine - subtlety (for a chard!), freshness and balance. Really enjoyed with a stack of Ottolenghi dishes and it seemed to be right at home. What did the bouquet remind me of? Well, as a kid I found the smell of (unleaded!) petrol sweet and incredibly attractive, This wine took me back to walking into our shed in the summer and the warm, welcoming smell of the mower. I’m sure you wanted to know that!” Shadowfax Macedon Ranges Chardonnay 2019£23.75 per bottle “This is seriously impressive given the fact that this is the Shadowfax entry level offering. Elegant and refined with a gorgeous creamy texture. What more can you ask for from a Chardonnay if only Burgundy could offer entry level wines of this quality.” Flowstone Sauvignon Blanc 2015£20.95 per bottle “This is seriously impressive given the fact that this is the Shadowfax entry level offering. Elegant and refined with a gorgeous creamy texture. What more can you ask for from a Chardonnay if only Burgundy could offer entry level wines of this quality.” Champagne Andre Roger Grande Reserve Grand Cru NV£30.50 per bottle “Exquisite and divine exceptional value for money.” Eastern Peake Pinot Taché 2019£20.95 per bottle “I have been guilty of not taking Rosé seriously associating those wines with sipping wine at hen parties or leisurely holidays in Provence overlooking fields of lavender. ( Shame on me ) This wonderful offering has changed all of that , this is a glorious bottle of bright crunchy fruit with gorgeous aromas that can be drunk with or without food.... and 12.5 ABV.” Gemtree Wines April's Dance Sparkling NV£28.95 per bottle “Open letter to Vinorium Team: Thank you for bringing this rare treat to the UK. I now own a fifth of the UK stock as we absolutely love it! It sits in a perfect pocket between the funky side of Pet Nat and the more traditional class of top end sparkling wines. I can't believe it's not sold out and may well be back for more. If you get the chance to order again I am all in already. Many Thanks.” “This is superb. Great freshness and fruit without the overbearing sweetness than many sparkling wines have. Very, very moreish; a great way to start a BBQ!” |
