Rymill Maturation Release Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
I don't get it! This wine has been on sale at Vinorium for over 18 months and from memory received one review some time ago of "very nice".
I opened one of my remaining four bottles the other night and continue to be mesmerised by it. For me, it has everything I look for in a mature Cabernet - a bouquet of cassis, mint and cedar, great harmony and a satisfyingly long finish.
At the moment this lovely effort can be bought for well under £20 - it should sell out at this price!
Shadowfax Geelong Pinot Gris 2020
Opening this wine came with a mid-week shall I/shan’t I moment. I’m not regretting my decision – a real joy. It has the aroma of quite a serious wine (which it is), then you tuck in and it’s soft, luxurious and packed with fruity charm. Hard to resist and lots of wine at the price.
Shadowfax Macedon Ranges Chardonnay 2019
“This is seriously impressive given the fact that this is the Shadowfax entry level offering. Elegant and refined with a gorgeous creamy texture. What more can you ask for from a Chardonnay if only Burgundy could offer entry level wines of this quality.”
Massena The Twilight Path Primitivo 2020
“As one of The Vinorium’s shiraz swilling oiks I was only too happy to try a different grape variety from a favoured producer. Wow, this is so damn good and testament to Jaysen Collins’s exceptional ability to craft unbelievable wines with twangy fresh intensity that are super value and screaming to be drunk young (his JC Ferine is another case in point). It’s a hard road trying to find wines that satisfy as you desperately try and hold the big guns until they are fully mature. This is wine is set to be a key member of my armoury to help me achieve this.”
Grey Sands The Mattock 2018
“To use the modern vernacular, the Richters have nailed it again with their 2018 'The Mattock'. Bursting with berries, this well-structured wine will develop if cellared, but also repays the impatient with its delicious perfume and complex flavours.”
Soumah Equilibrio Pinot Noir 2019
“Epic. Up there with the Burgundys twice or more the price. Delicious sweet juicy flavours and great length.”
Coulter Wines C1 Chardonnay Adelaide Hills 2019
“OH YES, this is a brilliant wine. I’m not hugely qualified in all things Chardonnay but have recently been drinking Hardys Eileen so have a decent benchmark. This has a classic Chardonnay backbone along with a welcome freshness; even a floral quality. Super enjoyable and a great example of jumping on any experienced wine makers personal project. Thinking they naturally put just a little more of their heart and soul into the winemaking....”
Grey Sands Pinot Blanc 2018
“WOW!! This is AMAZING!
Such a structured, delightful wine. Easily drinkable by itself, but very much for us a food wine, We enjoyed this with smoked salmon pate, the combination was sublime. Such a vibrant but balanced wine given its age. Our only dilemma is how to keep it for a few years to explore how it will unfold without the temptation to drink it!”
Gemtree Wines Small Batch Marsanne 2020
“We drink a lot of Rhône and Marsanne is such a joy. Living with a red wine drinker, negotiation around a white can be complex - Marsanne greases the wheels. I opened Gemtree’s with two classic Northern Rhône classics and this seriously held its own with its sweet, herbal drinkability. Agree that this example is punching well above its weight vs. old world. Another great addition to Gemtree’s fab line up.”
Soumah Single Vineyard Hexham Chardonnay 2018
"Sometimes when we speak of a wine offering great value there is a but... there is however no buts with this fabulous offering from Soumah it delivers on all fronts big time and is such a joy. To find a chardonnay of this quality and complexity at this price one has to doff one's cap in recognition to the fabulous team at the Vinorium for their research in bringing this wine to the attention of their customers. The more I taste of Australian chardonnay the more I am seduced by the world class quality of its winemakers."

100 Points - James Suckling "Welcome to one of the most beautiful faces of the Mosel. Essence of yellow fruit, from peach through mango to papaya. So concentrated, yet so vibrant and so pristine with such a mind-boggling number of nuances that your nervous system is pushed to the limit, in the nicest possible way. The generous sweetness is already well integrated, but this is made for the many decades to come. Drinkable now, but better from 2025."

99+ Points - Josh Raynolds "Light gold. Remarkably perfumed nose projects an exotic bouquet of deep, leesy yellow fruit, minerals, honeycomb, smoked meat and flowers, with Asian spices building expanding in the glass. Almost painfully concentrated, offering a surreal parade of orchard and pit fruits, smoked meat, toasted brioche and marrow braced by intensely salty, stunningly incisive minerality. Imagine a Frankenstein's monster of Chablis Le Clos and Clos Ste. Hune-but one with perfect balance, of course-and you get an idea of what I found in my bottle. The energetic, stony character builds exponentially on the finish, which didn't seem to, well, finish. The best analogy I can come up with for the intensity, focus and clarity of this Champagne is liquefied barbed wire. Utterly hallucinatory and one of the most amazing wines I've ever been fortunate enough to drink. At the risk of sounding completely out of touch with reality, this is a value."
Pazo Senorans Seleccion de Anada Albarino 2011
Best White Wine of the Year, Peñín 2020 Guide - 99 points
“For three years the family winery Pazo Señorans has flirted with being the best white wine of the year, always with its wine Pazo Señorans Selección de Añada, first in its 2007 vintage (Peñín Guide 2015 - 98 points), then with its 2008 (Guía Peñín Peñín 2017 - 98 points) and finally with his 2009 (Peñín Guide 2018 - 98 points). And they did it today with a wine that was a break not only in the Rías Baixas area, but also in the Spanish producing environment. Their Selección de Añada wine is a commitment to the aging of Galician whites, a wine capable of withstanding the challenge of time and of gaining expression on this journey. Today the Pontevedra winery has finally achieved this with its superb 2011 vintage, which shows soil, surroundings and, of course, a style that is already its own by acquired rights. This Pazo de Señorans has been an unmitigated love of interest for the tasting team, a wine that recalls the granite soils of its vineyards, where touches of laurel, lees and hydrocarbon are appreciated as the great whites of the world do. “
Vina Cobos Chanares Estate Malbec 2018
99 Points - James Suckling “Blackberries, ink and blueberries with black-tea and bark undertones. Full-bodied with density and richness that is well framed with beautiful, round and polished tannins and a seamless texture. Goes on for minutes. Try after 2026, but already great.”

99 Points - Wine Pilot “There was some debate around a decade ago that this iconic Margaret River winery had lost a little of its glitter and that the wines were not what they once were. I was not quite as onboard with that as some. In fairness, it is not easy to remain at the pinnacle for a half century. But in recent years, the levels of quality they have attained have put to rest any such doubts. These guys now make some of the most thrilling wines in Margaret River and none better than their Cabernet. There are some world class Cabs made in the region and the MW sits with the very best. This vintage ranks with the finest of recent releases and there have been some crackers. To be honest, to look at this, I slipped it into a tasting which friends had organised, which was of some “super-second level” Bordeaux and great Margaret River Cabernets, from vintages as far back as 1990, right up to today. It will give an indication of how well it went if I tell you that one friend, not usually known for purchasing anything other than the great wines of Europe, rang the next day to say he had already picked up a six pack.
96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this is elegance personified. A low yielding and slightly cooler vintage, the grapes went into small open tanks for fermentation, with thrice daily hand-plunging. 15 days on skins and then pressed to tank before it was racked to French oak, 15% new. Over two years maturation. As mentioned, elegance personified. A silky combination of coiled power and finesse, this is a glorious Cabernet. Blackberries, spices, tobacco leaves, kid leather, violets, cigar box notes, aniseed and delicately integrated oak. There is a gossamer-like web of complexity weaving through the wine. Seamless, great length and cashmere tannins. This is a brilliant wine. Ten years, twenty years? How long have you got? If you are serious about great Australian Cabernet, this is a must for your cellar."

99 Points – Antonia Galloni (Vinous) “The 2004 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is every bit as spectacular as it has always been. I remember tasting the 2004 with Bruno Giacosa and Dante Scaglione before it was released, and making a note to buy as much of the wine as soon as it hit the market. I have never regretted that decision. Explosive, deep and powerful, the 2004 Asili will reward readers lucky enough to own it for several decades. On this night, it is simply sublime. Not surprisingly, the 2004 is also one of the favorites of the group.”
Leeuwin Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
99 Points - Andrew Caillard MW, The Vintage Journal "Deep crimson. Classical blackcurrant cedar aromas with lifted espresso, roasted chestnut notes. Inky deep and beautifully concentrated wine with dense blackcurrant, dark plum, dark chocolate flavours, fine grainy/chocolatey tannins and perfectly integrated cedar oak. A superb grainy firm finish and mineral length. A great Leeuwin Estate Cabernet."

Full body yet compacted and compressed giving it an ultra-fine palate profile. Tension and finesse. Light citrus finish. Polished to almost perfection. Seamless finish. 500 cases made. Drink now.”
Dog Point Chardonnay 2011
98+ Points – Stuart McCloskey (Sampled June 2022) “What a stunner and surpasses my expectations. The bouquet delivers Dog Point’s tell-tale struck match however, 10-years in the bottle has dampened the producer’s reputation for being overtly reductive – this is not. Wonderfully precise bouquet which needs a little coaxing - liquid minerals, limestone, white flowers and lemon rind. The palate oozes with flavour, yet it is far from being over-the-top. Layered, oily-textured, but precise and focused. Wonderfully spicy – butter and fresh ginger too. The acidity is lively and the finish is incredibly long. So youthful even at 10-years of age. This is magnificent and will continue to age effortlessly (perhaps 5-10 years). I'm grinning like a Cheshire cat. Do not overchill. We sampled in both Zalto’s Bordeaux and Burgundy glassware with no clear winner.”
Mulline Bannockburn Fume Blanc 2019
£32.95 per bottle
Last 28 bottles available
98 Points - Stuart McCloskey "The bouquet is ultra-pure and sings with honeyed quince, touches of apple, apricot and warming ginger with more aeration. The palate is confident, unforced and a joy to sample. More complex than most Australian Sauvignon Blancs and full of charisma. I love the youthfulness which provides good bite and pithiness, although the palate offers much depth and breadth. Sumptuous in parts despite its infancy. Very impressive and certainly one of the best examples of Aussie Sauvignon Blanc currently available. Long, incredibly satisfying, juicy, moreish and sophisticated. This will be incredible in 5 years.”
Stolpman Vineyards L'Avion Roussanne 2017
98+ Points - Stuart McCloskey “In the late summer, team Stolpman pull every leaf away from the fruit to allow for full sun penetration. A month prior to harvest, when the sun exposed side of each cluster, tans, but the inside remains green, every grape cluster is gently hand rotated 180 degrees to facilitate an even suntan. The focus, determination and attention to detail provides one of the best new world Roussannes, in my opinion. Spiced pear, apple, buttered citrus, tangerine skin, orange blossom and honey unfold majestically from the glass. There’s theatre with golden hues, whilst the viscous intensity grips the side of my glass with all its life. The palate is concentrated, full bodied with waves of honey and buttered fruits covering every facet. There’s a spiciness (fresh ginger) which gently starts at the tip of my tongue and continues to lay a path of warmth all the way back. Intensity is the core of this wine, with minerality and acidity providing some welcome relief. With time, honeysuckle and peach emerge, but so too does the spiciness, which I love. Emphatically long; never-ending to be perfectly honest and will continue to provide an extraordinary wine experience for many years to come. Do not overchill. Served using Zalto Bordeaux glassware.”
Gemtree Wines SubTerra 2019
99-100 Points - Stuart McCloskey “Great Shiraz weaving its magic with the aid of mother nature and buried under the vines to rest and harmonise before being unveiled to a gobsmacked audience. The bouquet is truly remarkable and as profound as any Aussie Shiraz can get. Wow - Coconut, Chambord liqueur, wild blueberry and cold steel, gallop from the glass – violets, plum and mulberry too. The palate and flavour profiles are something to behold. The fruit and tannins spread across the palate like a peacock unveiling its magnificent tail. This is a serious wine, a wine which should be respected (I confess that I originally scoffed at the notion of storing wine under the earth. How stupid I was). I am not entirely sure what the burying aspect imparts on the wine, but the calmness, composure and balance is so impressive. I love the sweetness to the fruit. I also love the high toned and slightly pithy cranberry element which provides some welcome grip. This is ticking every box on its way to perfection. Decanted for 6 hours and served using Zalto glassware. Drink now to 2050.”
John's Blend Margarete's Shiraz 2018
98 Points - Stuart McCloskey “Extraordinarily fragrant with dark, sweet blueberries, mulberry, graphite and sweet spices – a little peppery red fruit too. Incredibly fresh on the nose. The palate delivers freshness and elegance by the bucket load. The mineral soaked fruit provides a rich, velvety depth that fills every facet of your palate without being too big. The tannins are fine grained. Effortless concentration and winemaking – I adore the ‘cool’ feel to the wine. Who said John’s Blend is ‘old school’? This is a very sophisticated wine with great depth and breadth. The finish is super long and full of richly spiced red and black fruits. Beautifully made with everything being confined by freshness. Exemplary. Drinking window: 2021 (decanted for 3-4 hours) through to 2040. Served using Zalto Bordeaux glassware.”
Dr Edge Chardonnay North 2019
£30.75 per bottle
Last 5 bottles available
98 Points - Stuart McCloskey "The most floral bouquet of the three, with buttered citrus and fresh vanilla seeds drifting from the glass. Still, and not to bore, lemons, minerals and salinity are also present.. The palate offers an intense experience and not necessarily through flavour as the vitality and tension offers a wonderful shrill of excitement. The balance is exquisite and, given its age, it is difficult to pin-down exact flavours save for a little crisp, green apple. So much energy and tightly coiled like a piston waiting to explode. Minerals and citrus contrast with a marine-influenced finish which I love. Truly outstanding and will be hitting its stride in five or so years. Potentially perfect in ten. Served with Zalto Bordeaux glassware. Do not serve from the fridge. Decant for a wee while as this wine needs a little aeration.”
Domaine Simha Rama Pinot Noir 2017
98++ Points - Stuart McCloskey “The bouquet is both intoxicating and beguiling ranging from petrichor (that wonderful earthy scent when rain falls on dry, hot ground) brambles, hedgerow fruits, orange rind and floral notes to pencil. Certainly, edging towards a more savoury side. The palate is broad, expansive and keeps giving – far from being a nervous Pinot Noir. The tannins are svelte and melt into a heady mix of wild berries. The lavish texture is impossible to ignore – Satin and structurally perfect. The deep core of fruit is impressive as is the bottomless finish. Simply magical and a highlight in our portfolio. I cannot wait to see how this wine ages over the coming 6-10 years. Served with Zalto Burgundy glassware (as important as the wine itself)”98 Points - Stuart McCloskey "The most floral bouquet of the three, with buttered citrus and fresh vanilla seeds drifting from the glass. Utopos Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
98+ Points - Stuart McCloskey “The ’19 Cabernet Sauvignon shone from the get-go and resampling is merely a gratifying experience rather than a necessity. Little has changed (as one would expect) – the perfume is utterly beguiling with an intoxicating mix of ripe, black and blue fruits juxtaposed, and perhaps now the more dominant flow of coal, graphite, steel, liquorice, camphor and the most wondrous marine lift. Although very young, everything about this wine gets the heart racing – the perfume, the balance, the freshness, the gossamer sheen of silk which glides across the palate with amazing grace. The tannins and acidity provide the faintest touch of crispness and merely provide a gentle arm of support rather than towering structure. Utterly spellbinding and comfortably one of my favourite Aussie Cabernet Sauvignons and my favoured ‘19 Utopos wine. Masterful, in a word. Decant for 4 hours. Served using Zalto Bordeaux glassware. Drinking window – there is no harm in awakening this beauty today however, a decade will provide a heavenly vinous experience.” Sampled 21 July 2021.
Wantirna Estate Isabella Chardonnay 2019
98 Points - Stuart McCloskey “Time in the glass is the great benefactor (mine was left for an hour) resulting in a bouquet that blossoms and comes alive with buttered lemon, citrus peel, quartz, salty sea spray and chalk – vibrant and captivating. The palate delivers wave after wave of seductive buttered citrus fruit underpinned with razor sharp acidity. The density and palate feel are truly remarkable for such a young wine. I fear you would miss the amplitude, sheen, depth and glossiness if poured straight from the fridge (word to the wise). Yet another suave, seamless and immensely pleasing wine which will only get better over the next 10+ years. For Burgundy purists or those seeking something special, but do not want to part with £100 – this is the one for you. Compelling drinking. Decant for an hour and serve using Zalto Bordeaux glassware.”
Standish The Relic Shiraz Viognier 2018
100 Points - Stuart McCloskey "The perfume is incredibly complex and difficult to pin down. Certainly exotic, super-intense and fills your olfactory senses with one hell of a wave of dark red / blue fruits (black raspberry liqueur) sweet spices and a wild-floral character. The palate is sensual, supremely elegant, and without one single flaw – far too moreish making returning the glass to the tasting table very difficult indeed. The fruit saturates your palate, but and from the very first sip, the level of poise is breathtaking. Less powerhouse and more ethereal brilliance. Deeply impressive and perhaps my favourite out of the collection. Decanted for 3.5 hours and served with Zalto Bordeaux glassware. Drinking window from 2020 to 2050++." Tasted 06.05.2020

Mike said, “I came to Vinorium because I love Aussie Shiraz. I still do, because Vinorium is the place to go if you want to find the best Shiraz supported by the most accurate (and persuasive) tasting notes. But now I buy so much more. I've been converted to Aussie Pinot Noir, Riesling and Marsanne, discovered Tasmania, and found Chardonnays that show a wide range of variety (because I do still also love the buttery whites of old). The service has always been excellent, with the team never failing to accommodate my delivery wishes. All in all, buying from Vinorium has always been a pleasure from the anticipation of selection through to the last sip of drinking.”
