Possibly the “wine of the vintage,” the 2008 boasts an inky/blue/purple color as well as a glorious perfume of spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, camphor, truffles and crushed rocks. With great fruit on the attack and mid-palate, a medium to full-bodied, multidimensional mouthfeel and a skyscraper-like finish, this prodigious effort over-delivers, even for this phenomenal terroir. Give it 5-8 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 40-50 years.

Zalto Denk-Art Bordeaux Glass
Due to further lockdowns in Austria we are experiencing extended delays with our Zalto orders.
We are currently expecting our next delivery to arrive at the end of February.
The Zalto Bordeaux glass is recommended for weightier style reds, probably our most widely used glass when tasting in house, this glass is great for many different wines. The large bowl helping aerate and soften tannins whilst accentuating the wine's depth and concentration. The Bordeaux glass is the ideal choice for Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Zinfandel, Bordeaux or Rhône style blends and many other red wines. Surprisingly, it is also the glass of choice for oaked Chardonnay, the shape of the bowl accentuating the balance of ripe fruits and oak.
Château Ausone is arguably one of the most famous producers in Bordeaux despite its small size. In the mid-nineties the property was taken over by the Vauthier family, with Alain Vauthier taking over as managing director. Michelle Rolland has been consultant oenologist since 1995 and the proof of this fantastic team’s efforts is shown in the tasting. Since the late 1990s, this renowned château has consistently produced fabulous wines. Robert Parker scored both the 2003 and 2005 vintages perfect scores of 100 Points and many other vintages since have been awarded 98 or 98+ points. Château Ausone makes a second wine, Chapelle d'Ausone which also score highly from Parker who says ‘The fact that this second wine is so remarkable tells readers just how stupendous the grand vin must be.’
Alain, his daughter Pauline and brilliant winemaker Phillipe Baillarguest are putting as much effort into producing the best Château Moulin Saint-Georges as they are with Château Ausone itself. Moulin Saint-Georges is produced in the same way; super-strict fruit selection and the wine is matured in 100% new French barriques from anywhere between 18 to 20 months. This is a truly fabulous property and Château Moulin Saint-Georges is just as world-class in our opinion...
Bordeaux is not only the most famous wine producing region in France but in the world, with the most prestigious châteaux and wines in the industry. Its history dates back to the Roman times and today is the largest producing region of fine wines. Vineyards in Bordeaux are known by châteaux and therefore the name of each individual château is an important brand.
Many top wines are sold ‘En Primeur’ meaning that they are sold in the barrel prior to bottling. Almost 90% of the wine produced in Bordeaux is red (called ‘Claret’ in the UK) from over 8,500 producers. The main reason for the success of the wine production in Bordeaux is the perfect combination of climate, with long hours of sunshine ideal for ripening the grapes and well-draining gravel soil. Appellations are an important part of the Bordeaux culture and the region has 54 appellations recognized by the AOC, the Appellation d’Origine Controlle.
