A truly unique site planted in the 1980s to Pinot Noir and Gewurztraminer, sitting on the north side of Mount Macedon near Hesket, this close planted vineyard almost kisses the clouds at 800m above sea level. Showcasing the unique microclimate and soil profile of the area, the north-facing vines grown on granite outcrop produce grapes with great acid and fragrance.
Winemaker: Cherry fruits and floral notes fil the palate. There are complexities galore all sitting on a precise palate of lacy fine tannins with lovely acid core. The palate is long and persistent with evolving complexities as time goes by in the glass. A fine example of cool climate, single vineyard, high altitude Macedon Ranges Pinot Noir.

The Zalto Burgundy glass is recommended for all Pinot Noirs, designed almost specifically for Pinot’s delicate aromas. The aromas of Pinot Noir are often the most delicate, but when revealed can be the most enticing and pretty. The Zalto Burgundy glass is the widest of all the Zalto glasses providing the largest surface area for wine. This allows for rapid aeration, revealing all of the delicate spice, herb, floral, earth and berry aromas to be maximized. The narrower rim holding these aromas for an unparalleled experience of the elegant subtleties. The Zalto Burgundy is also very good for Nebbiolo, especially Barolo.

A rich velvet mid palate is encased with grippy meaty tannins.

"For team Shadowfax, Macedon Chardonnay is often their go-to wine. “It displays all the good things in ultra-cool climate Chardonnay; flavour, poise, acid structure and purity. A staple of the Shadowfax brand.” says Alister."
Shadowfax Wines are headed by winemaker Alister Timms, their small and innovative winemaking team ensure only the highest quality grapes make it into each and every bottle. Shadowfax’s wines have a strong focus on regionality. Although the winery is based in Werribee, Shadowfax have extensive vineyards in the Macedon Ranges located an hour north west of Melbourne and growing ultra-cool climate Gewurztaminer, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Despite being the second smallest state in Australia, Victoria is home to over 600 wineries, more than any other wine-producing state. However, Victoria does not produce the most wine, as rather than producing mass quantities of cheaper wine, its wineries tend to be smaller and more boutique in style. The cool climate here is produced by the coastal areas and this means that a wide range of wines can be made, from stunningly complex Chardonnay and delicate Pinot Noir in the Yarra Valley, to savoury and rich Shiraz from Heathcote and iconic fortified wines from Rutherglen.
Victoria is fast becoming one of our favourite regions with many new producers joining us from here, including Shadowfax, Mulline, and Eastern Peake.
