Stuart McCloskey "Following a 2-hour decant (directly into my Zalto Bordeaux stem). The story of the Frankland River is portrayed beautifully through this wine, and despite being circa 200km inland from the South West Coast of WA, this exhibits a strong oceanic influence of sea kelp and iodine, which I find personally exciting. Winter berries, mulberry jam and blackcurrants continue the aromatics along with cold steel, graphite, bay leaf, mint and game. Such is the bottomless bouquet - you know you’re going to be in for one hell of an experience. The flavours are long, and the palate feel is sleek and creamy. So impactful upon my first sip, and not in a ‘big’ way. Instead, this is the perfect combination of elegance, flavour and palate feel. Such a smooth ride – glossy, the flavours run deep and pure… Whispers of oak and tannin provide the framework for the dark, winter fruits to emerge from – these are seasoned with the sweetest of spice. By far, one of the best red wines of 2024… I plan to cook a wild mallard tonight along with game sausage, and small roasted potatoes sitting underneath the trivet screaming for more duck fat. This will be the perfect accompaniment. At six years of age, this is drinking beautifully now but has all the credentials to cellar for 10 to 15+ years. Utterly sensational.
