Kaesler vineyards were established in 1893. The family, sprung from Silesian pioneers who came to the Barossa Valley in the 1840s, and took up 96 acres in 1891. They cleared the scrub and planted out the entire holding with Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro (Mourvedre) and White Hermitage vines.
In 1999, renowned Australian winemaker Reid Bosward bought Kaesler and set about developing its portfolio, focusing in particular on its single vineyard wines. Many of Kaesler’s vineyards contained gnarled, dry-grown Shiraz vines dating back to 1893 - these vines are some of the largest holdings of nineteenth century plantings in the world and provide the backbone of the intense wines they produce today.
Kaesler produces bold estate wines representative of the Barossa Valley and are best known for their multi award winning 'Old Bastard Shiraz' listed as ‘Outstanding’ in the internationally regarded Langton’s Classification Guide.
