Stuart McCloskey "This is in fine shape for a 17-year-old wine – age has certainly treated it well. Equally, time in the bottle has delivered wonderful layers to the bouquet. Soused cherries and plums, iodine, damp earth, it's wild and briary, very Burgundian, rose petals, bay leaf, smoked, black tea, blood orange, dust, cedar and leather. It’s difficult to find any fault to this splendid perfume. I purposely served my sample on the cooler side and allowed the temperature to gradually rise in the glass. A nod to the brightness and freshness – it’s not fading any time soon. It’s in a really good place with soused sweetness juxtaposed against a background of old-school charm. The tannins are sleek and slender. Every component feels comfortable with each other. There’s balance, flavour, freshness, control, length, along with a touch of rusticity. It’s certainly charming and certainly addictive (he says topping-up for the third time!). The dried orange peel finish is nirvana for me… Quite the bargain at circa £1.35 per year. It shows no sign of falling apart and will continue to age in the cellar however, the sweet spot is ‘now’ and not 5-years down the line. Served using Zalto Burgundy glassware. I did not decant."

- Duty Paid: UK Duty @ £26.78 per 9 litres and VAT @ 20% has been paid.
Wines are only available in whole, unmixed cases unless otherwise stated.
